Oh come on now. The irony here is palpable. If I didn't take advantage of it, I'd be disappointed in myself, haha.
Some of these games could stand on their own as retail products. Some could not. Thankfully, I think more land in column A than column B.
@Janklogs- I don't like MLP. And why do you want to not like something just because I do? Am I your anti-role model?

To be clear, I don't think the PS2 comment is fair in either case. The fan stuff seems relevant here but less so with Black Mesa. As noted by others in said thread, people would've been far more excited by an official remake of HL1.
I'm just puzzled by excitement around remakes in general.
Anyway, from the screenshots and the video in Josh's post, I thought Black Mesa looked like a pretty good PS2 game. That's just my opinion. "Fair" or "not fair" doesn't really play into it.
And do people find that opinion so hurtful? A lot of PS2 games look great, even by today's standards (SotC, Katamari, and Okami immediately come to mind). They just don't look technically impressive.
I don't see why saying a game isn't technically impressive looking is such a big deal.

more excited maybe. But not anywhere near as impressed. Or surprised: valve repackaged hl2 a butt ton, and remakes/hd upscales are all over nowadays.
My bro was really happy for this, and from what I've seen it really is quite impressive. But it would be less so if it wasn't fan made, simply because a big name company making a remake would be expected to have similar or better quality.
Not that this should devalue the game or its devs... if anything, it makes them look really good.
For example, you might recall that the original Half Life was actually released on the PS2. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=playstation%202%20half%20life - Here's some videos of it. For the time, the game was praised for its graphical capabilities (http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-2/half-life/critic-reviews).
Black Mesa looks better than that. Way better. Way way way way way better. And it's in HD. It's not even close. It's not like a matter of opinion. It's a matter of technical capabilities.
Most of us agreed in the comment chain that if you just came out and admitted how ridiculous the PS2 comment was, we'd all be legit with it. Shit happens. Sometimes, people talk too quickly. But you just keep circling the wagons and acting as though it's just a matter of opinion. It's not, man. It's really not.
Beyond that, many of us saw you as a champion of retro and non-modern looking games. Yet, here you were, basically saying, "Why the excitement, the graphics aren't that great!" I get plenty excited about projects without modern graphics. In fact, I'd argue that most of my excitement goes to projects without modern graphics. So that was it too.
Personally, I don't care at all whether you like HL. You could say it's a big stinking turd, and I wouldn't even bat an eyelid. It was the cynical focus on looks as well as the completely inane technical commentary that really drove me bonkers.
Fair enough.
Honestly, the funny part of all of this is that I don't really care much about HL. I'm not a big fan. I just couldn't believe that Holmes could say something that was, simultaneously, so technically inaccurate and so breathtakingly cynical.

People sometimes make mistakes.
And thank you, D. Micheal Moore, whoever you are(PhilK3nS3bb3n?). You have served humanity well and may Glob remember you always.
These games are neat and this is a pretty darn neat idea!
