Swedish Chef is cooler than you, or anything you will ever do in your entire life.
Tonight, the regular cast (which, ironically, is pretty irregular) will discuss all this completely fabricated BioShock 2 hoopla, not realizing the irony that by spending podcast time debunking ridiculous rumors they are encouraging that people fabricate more ludicrous things for attention. And we might talk about Bob's Game and RE5 racism one final time, but maybe not. We'll also probably talk about Dtoid's birthday.
You could always suggest things to talk about, if you want. That's partially what the listener questions are for. The other part is to reward people with Dtoid swag bags, and that's probably the more interesting part as far as you fine listeners are concerned.
So, hit the jump and start asking.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
dunno), so I was like "whateva".
Ever since then, I've seen him mentioned and discussed, and its
now reached mythic proportions.
I would just like a history lesson on the man, the myth, the
legend.
What the hell is the whole deal with him?

Also, what did you think about the cooperative nature of RE5?
wow.
"To evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced and having evoked it in oneself then by means of movements, lines, colours, sounds, or forms expressed in words, so to transmit that feeling that others experience the same feeling-this is the activity of art.
Art is a human activity consisting in this, that one man consciously by means of certain external signs, hands on to others feelings he has lived through, and that others are infected by these feelings and also experience them."
So basically, if someone can successfully transmit a feeling into their work so that another person, upon viewing the work, has the same sensation, then the artist has truly succeeded in making a work of art.
For example, Miyamoto used his memories of exploring the woods and caves behind his house as a child as a direct inspiration for The Legend of Zelda. I'm sure there are plenty of developers that do this.
I just kind of wanted to hear your thoughts, do you think most developers consciously making these types of decisions, or are they just trying to cash in?
I've seen a lot of people say in regards to Bioshock 2 (and other games, too) something along the lines of "I'll only check it out if there's co-op." Colette already said more eloquently than I could have why co-op doesn't fit into the world of Bioshock as we know it now, but what do you think of this "co-op or bust" attitude? It seems more and more people are finding it a necessary addition to all FPS games, whether it truly needs it or not.
My question is: assuming that the game's story is crap (which it will most likely be) do you think that you will be able to enjoy it for its entertaining gameplay, or is the unholy bastardization of a great universe going to kick you in the crotch and make you call it mistress?
RE5 brought this question to mind. I can't start the same game as a friend because he has to be in the game and invite me in. Meaning I miss the opening video of the game. This has also happened to me in 50 Cent Blood on the Sand.
You'd think the developer would try to get the co-op perfect, especially if thats a big draw of the game.
Or maybe this is only bothering me and im insane.
Also, Happy Bday Niero/Dtoid.
The ones from the top of my head are GTA4 for it's stereotyped portrayal of Eastern Europeans, Irish immigrants, Italians and Red Steel for it's BS unrealistic fake-accent yakuza. But would these be considered generalized stereotypes for the sake of storytelling?
However, on the flip side there are the games that see you playing co-op and decide to throw more enemies with higher HP into the mix. A bad example of this would be Too Human what with its rubbishness.
Do you think that modern co-op should be a challenge for gamers to master like any other multiplayer mode, or should it be a tool for easier game progression? Does a Co-op game mode need a bigger challenge than the single player?
would you like to see more iterations on this gameplay concept, the way the "cover system" has been in recent years ?
Or, if you prefer: Is $50 to $60 really a reasonable admission price for a narrative based game experience?
I'm not saying they're evil or they make you violent. However they seem pretty capable of introducing ideas or memes into the minds of gamers. "The cake is a lie" or "resident evil is racist" seem to be a product of this quality of videogames?
is interactivity related to this? since the medium is more interactive than books or movies. Does it make it more influencial?
I was a bit taken aback by the response.
From my perspective as an old fan of the site, R.S. was just fucking irritating. I don't like attention whores.
Truce?
@Podtoid: You should make Samit a regular cast member anyway.
Mmmmm....
Colette has written an article about why coop in Bioshock 2 would be a terrible idea, and quite a few people commenting on that article agree. Did everyone forget System Shock 2? System Shock 2 had coop, and I don't know of anyone who claims the coop ruined that game. Plus, 2K Marin is made up of former employees of 2K Boston, so from the sounds of it, Bioshock 2 is being developed by mostly the same people. People just don't have any trust for developers anymore.
/damn it
So it recently came out that Atlus is not doing so hot financially. Their current console releases have been largely failures (the Trauma Center being the only exceptions) and they haven't even bothered trying anything on the PS3 (BIAS!). However, they are continuing to bang out interesting titles on both portable platforms and still have a strong showing on the PS2. Based on this and the recent announcement of Atlus Online, can a niche company like Atlus survive this way? Is this a result of the current economic situation or has the games industry evolved to the point where obscure titles are relegated to indie PC games, handhelds, and XBLA/PSN? Should I be prepping for Persona 5 to be a MMORPG or using the Wii remote to shoot myself in the head?
Perhaps if you understood the Swedish language, you would have known that he was obviously from Sweden. He taught me all I know about the language.
Snakes on a Plane. Over 9000. Chocolate rain. Dumbledore Dies. NEDM. None of these are videogame memes. They can come from anywhere. But I see your point, and it's still a good question.
Anyway, I've been thinking recently (shut up). I'm not quite sure how to say what I'm thinking, so bear with me if this comes out a bit weird. It's common knowledge that a lot of videogames, despite whatever mature content they possess, are marketed at kids, yet people generally assume that they are the target audience, expecing the game be catered to them. For example, a stupid cock joke in Blacksite or Jericho or something would be seen as bad writing, even though the kind of thick teen that buys those games is not likely to complain.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is a definate rift between kids films and mature films, yet in videogames, that rift doesn't really exist (generaly speaking). So does it make you feel stupid to think that all this time, you've been thoughtfully critiquing and arguing over baby toys? :p
Or, if you don't like that question, do you think we will ever see a videogame equivilent of The Godfather in terms of maturity and complexity?
*My browser dictionary doesn't understand the word 'movie'.
if there is any hint of racisim in the game it is the other way around, all those black people chasing after and trying to kill the only white guys? sounds racist to me.
besides if the blacks would go to school rather than dropping out they would know they are from africa, thus the setting and enemies found therein make sense. if i just wanted to run around killing blacks for the sake of killing blacks i'll play GTA san andreas (which they loved by the way)
PS - RE5 is still awesome. I bought and started it yesterday, making my way through Chapter 1-2 on veteran in online co-op.
BONUS QUESTION: do any of you want to be the Sheva to my Chris and play online?
If we do then what could we do to fix it?
If we don't, then why force it down our throats
this could include Sheva or Dom.
What is everyones take on how video games seem to be the most nostalgia inducing media out there. Thoughts?
Also, i would love to know if anyone is going to be going to SIGGRAPH this year. Him im looking at you. As it is in New Orleans and i will hopefully be attending.
