Tomb Raider DLC introduces a 'new' playable character photo

So it has come to this. Seemingly prepared to do anything to revive the ailing Tomb Raider series, it seems that Eidos will be introducing a brand new playable character with the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld DLC, introducing the first non-Lara Croft hero to the series for the first time in history. In a manner of speaking.

This "new" character is actually a clone of Lara Croft, who has jumped the shark with "superior shadow powers, increased agility" and the "ability to slow time to unleash devastating melee combos". Allow your eyebrows to raise at any time.

The new DLC, Lara's Shadow, is an Xbox 360 exclusive and will be released on March 10.

This is interesting to me because it possibly hints at the future of the Tomb Raider series. Eidos has already talked about a dramatic reboot for the franchise in a bid to keep it relevant. Could a part of that reboot be so dramatic as to take out Lara herself? At this point, I wouldn't cross it out, even if Eidos takes the easy route by providing us with a clone who looks exactly the same.

Crystal Dynamics go on record about allowing gamers to play as an entirely new character for the first time in the history of the Tomb Raider franchise

Thursday 5th March ...Pushing the boundaries of the Tomb Raider franchise to its limits with the second downloadable content pack exclusive to Xbox Live, Crystal Dynamics talks openly in its latest developer diary about the challenges and triumphs of its latest endeavour.

Stepping into the shoes of the Doppleganger, a clone of Lara Croft, you'll get to witness first hand her superier shadow powers, increased agility and use her ability to slow time to unleash devastating melee combos.

Woa what the fuck? Shadow powers? Devestating melees? Increased agility? Slow down time? What next? Extinct animal species coming back to life only to get gunned down by this devilish Lara Croft clone?! This isn't jumping the shark, this is launching into orbit over the shark and coming back into the atmosphere on the otherside.

What ever happened to good old Lara Croft who justs raid tombs for money and kills endangered species and rival tomb raiders? Oh I miss the 90's...

I'm about 3 hours through this game and I'm struggling with it. I went back and played Tomb Raider II a few times.

Not that I have any interest in anything associated with Tomb Raider, but I'm sick of Xbox-exclusive DLC.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness had a dude as a playable character. Don't remember his name, but he was slow as balls and annoying as hell to play as.

eidos is so fucking homo. why not just ditch the franchise? I guess it'd be worth milking if there was some sort of... base of fans- a fanbase or something who didn't know better to exploit, but that isn't the case with tomb raider.

This is Lara's Shadow, its part of the story and at the end of the latest DLC Lara gained the ability to control it.

Oh write, Jim, I keep forgetting that journalistic integrity and research don't exist in your vocabulary.

Now, now, no need for name calling. So what if it fits into the story? The story, quite frankly, is shit. Where does journalistic integrity come into this?
Cheap shot is cheap.
