Tom Morello to appear in Guitar Hero III? photo

With Slash already already announced as a "boss" character (sweet!), and Rock of Love's Bret Michaels already slated to appear sans strippers (bummer!), Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock looks like it's attempting to deliver a star-studded rock n' roll experience.

Well, it appears you can add Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello to the mix. In a video demonstration seen over at GamePro, Morello's name is casually dropped, the first mention of the guitarist in connection with Legends of Rock. Even more evidence is this above scan from an alleged German Activision brochure that also mentions Morello as a boss character in the game.

Tom Morello? A guitar hero? Perhaps. The guy has appeared on the cover of more guitar magazines than I can begin to count, and he is considered by many to be a modern rock legend. This has yet to be confirmed by Activision, Neversoft, or that girl I know who met Morello at a show in Chicago last fall, but we should be expecting an official announcement in the near future.

OK, so let's get this out of the way -- who's upset that it's not Dimebag Darrell?

That's cool, I've accepted Rage Against the Machines as the sellouts they said they werent. But I still listen to them. I'm happier with Morello over Dimebag Darrel.

If anything his RATM days were a little more unique and not as forced when he was in Audioslave. It seemed every Audioslave song pretty much had a quota for a Tom Morello solo.

Seems like it'd be kind of tough to get Dime to record a solo for the game, like Slash did.

:(

Morello is awesome. I'm still not buying GH 3, though. Now that Rock Band has Cherub Rock, GH 3 is useless to me.

I won't rest until Rock Ban or Guitar Hero 3 has some New Order in it. Preferably Rock Band, because I want to play bass.

It's not tasteless, because rumors had been floating about that it was Dimebag. There was a picture of a character that looked like him, but it may have just been the new Axel Steel with a mustache.

Anyway, I hope Morello does a new song to duel him with, because the one that Slash has is pretty awesome, and it'd be nice to have a hard Morello-style battle.

Tom Morello creates alot of amazing sounds on his guitar..they didnt use any sampling on the ratm albums, just all kinds of guitar tricks..

Look, is someone going to tell me that all of Tom Morello's solos don't sound the same? And that his guitar riffs (particularly those he wrote for RATM) aren't obvious and stale?

I'm not denying that the guy can play guitar, and I'm not denying that when Rage first hit the scene that the sounds he made weren't impressive, but let's call it like it is. He's not the only guy who can make interesting, squealing sounds with his guitar and a number of effects. Personally, I've always been way more impressed and blown over by Melt Banana's Agata, who shares a similar sound to Morello in a lot of ways, but uses his palette in a more interesting fashion.

So there. Ya' bastards. :D

Rage Against the Machine isn't very good anyways. The quasi rap-rock mixed with Rage's lead vocals (forgot the name) get tiresome and annoying.

Dimebag or fail.

Very upset with no Dime yet. Tom was alright, i dont know if unpluging your guitar and useing the cable to hit the stings instead to make a god awful feedback makes you a guitar hero.

What about Rhodes too?

Tom Morello is the best guitarist of the past 20 years at least, and he created a lot of the most unique techniques a lot of guitarists use today.

He would be impossible to beat though, if you started to gain the upper hand he would start screaming the 'unleashing the fjucking fjury!' and storm off the stage.

What the hell are you going to do for a Tom Morello Challenge? Making the squeedly-squaddly-doodly-hocus-pocus-hoodly-doo noises with the guitar?

The game's called Guitar Hero, so give me a guitar hero, like Jeff Beck or Kerry King or someone who can actually do something with a guitar other than make weird scrapy noises.
