It looks like, according to the Japanese people, that Capcom, Square Enix, and Sega dominated the show, each with three nods. The selections aren't surprising, either -- the Japanese people flipping out over anything called Monster Hunter is par for the course.
The lack of Destructoid's game of TGS, Saint's Row 2, is a bit disturbing, but certainly not shocking.
Someone forgot to pay their editor.
When GTA3 came out, it was ballsy and over the top. GTA4, however, is the moody bitch in the corner seat telling the rest of the class "be serious, guys" in between wrist carving sessions. In other words, GTA4 went a bit too far up it's own ass. Why do you think the most comical character, Brucie, is the fan fav?
While GTA was spending their time "growing up," Saint's Row was taking their time building an entire game around what people loved about GTA, messing around and causing chaos. Saints Row, in essence, became the Unreal Tournament or Timesplitters to Half-Life and Dues Ex.
In other words, Saints Row focuses on fun. Now I'm sure GTA fans will pretend bowling with Roman was "fucking best gameplay ever" but how can that even compare to entering a demolition derby? It should also be noted that most of the improvements to GTA IV that people love to applaud DID come from Saints Row. So if you want pretend all games should be like Godfather and Bioshock, Saints Row isn't for you. But if you play for fun, at LEAST give this a rental.
I second that..I think when you have somebody like Square up there three times, it gets to be..well, Unfair. At least give those bigger groups a handicap, and only chose one game.
I hope the other small time developers (if there are any over there) got disgraced, and committed suicide?
