Toejam & Earl getting an Xbox Live Arcade release photo

When I woke up this morning, I certainly did not predict that I'd be writing about Toejam & Earl, but here we are. The Sega Genesis game that never gets mentioned except by five people is coming to XBLA as one of Sega's ever-popular rehashes of old stuff.

Despite its cult status, Toejam & Earl never seems to appear on Sega's many Genesis compilations, often overlooked by the publisher. Now it finally gets its time to shine, with the game winning a poll to determine which classic Sega title should get released on XBLA next. So far there's been no mention of a PSN release, but I'm sure it's coming.

Methinks Sega will be showing this duo a little more respect in future now that the fans have spoken.

Even though it's still likely, if they don't do a PSN release of this, I'll be really bummed.

It better have both local and online co-op, co-oping that game was one of my great joys as a kid.

What comes out this Wednesday?

They kind of just said "fuck it", after the Summer of Arcade. I bet you it's another one of those horrible Hasbro games for $10+ dollars.

The only good game was the first one and I highly doubt it will hold up today.

Played the first one on Wii Virtual Console. Not bad, but not great either. This (and the upcoming Earthworm Jim remake) seems like something that might've been better left in the past IMO.

Holy shit, I'm so excited about the prospect of TJ&E on XBLA that I just had to make a comment here.

Awesome, but I hope the pricing is reasonable.

This game is only fun with a friend to play with. I would hope it supports online play. I bought the Wii VC version awhile back and rarely had the opportunity to play it with anyone as there was obviously no online.

Is this release going to be the first or the second? I would assume first, but picture is clearly from the second.

Already have it on Wii VC, and it's totally a case of retro goggles. I really would have preferred Earthworm Jim, but I suppose I could get that on the VC as well.

I would've prefered Revenge of Shinobi. Seen as though it was missing off the Mega Drive collection.

I personally want Shinobi III but hey I'm not complaining. Toejam and Earl is fucking awesome and a cult classic for sure. Till it got raped on that awful Xbox game they made.

best. game. ever.
however, having it on virtual console already, as well as perfectly fine copies for my perfectly fine genesis, i'll almost definitely be skipping this incarnation.

I never really got into the gameplay, but I'm tempted to grab this on release solely for the soundtrack. Glad to see T&J getting some love outside the Virtual Console.
