Look, I'm not about to ruin the first ten minutes of a game I'm about to go out and buy the second Best Buy opens up today. However, if you're still on the fence for some reason about picking up Super Mario Galaxy 2 or you're one of those guys who "sold his Wii and has never been happier" then this Ten Minute Taste should be right up your alley.
If the ten minutes above doesn't wet your whistle, we will, of course, have a full review coming your way shortly. However, if you want a solid recomendation now, perhaps this email Chad sent the Dtoid staff after getting the game yesterday will suffice:
SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 IS THE GREATEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED!
I AM HAVING SO MUCH FUN RIGHT NOW! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Holy shit, it's out. Being a late SMG follower, I started a few days ago and I'm speeding through the whole game right now (currently at 52 stars, just 8 more!). I know it would take much longer the get the whole game 100% complete but I won't touch the new one until I at least see the credits roll (might have to go back to have a taste of the harder levels and possibly complete them all if I have the time).
@lewness yes you can play through the "story" pretty quickly and get to the final boss and ending. And then you have plenty more stars are challenges to complete if you want. I wish more games were designed like that.
I'm the guy who sold his Wii twice over, but I'm totally considering going and getting a Wii today. Gaaahhhh, someone stop me. I have Red Dead Redemption, and haven't even started Alan Wake but still want to go get this today and buy a black Wii. Someone talk me down off the ledge.
Gah...you're not helping. I feel like a puppet and someone else is controlling my limbs and wants to make me go to Bestbuy and get another (3rd) Wii, and this game. Gahhhh make it stop.
I heard this game was less repetitve and had less waiting around time due to the lack of annoying hubs. If this is the case sign me up.
Hell even if it isn't the case I'll still buy it. The first game was great... save for that Luigi's Purple Coins level D: There's hard and then there's just stupid.
It has a more traditional "map" similar to New Super Mario. You see all the worlds and alternate leves in a branching path that unlocks as you advance, and it shows you right there how many stars you can collect in each world.... no more "walking to the kitchen to do the water level" like the first Mario Galaxy.
Every time you finish a level you get returned to a home planet similar to the first game's hub, but it's mostly a playground to try the new powers you unlock, and you can get from that HUB to the map in a couple of seconds.
I think it's pretty much impossible for Miyamoto to make his own personal best game yet. The guy has made pretty much every classic Nintendo game ffs. Ocarina man, Ocarina...
Well, you'll all be happy to hear I went and got the black Wii, and this. With some other stuff as well. But I did it, oh what have I done? I cant even play till tomorow because the SUNS are on now, and then LOST till midnight. Gahhhhh
Another great example of innovation, I am glad to find it. There are so many developers working on this segment but this is one of the best innovative idea ever. Thanks for sharing it here.
