I love Diablo style action RPGs and Titan Quest was a good one. What it just lacked was random environments so re-playability wasn't there. That's something that any developer that wants to make a Diablo clone needs to do really. It's all well and good have random loot and enemies but with out randomized levels it all gets boring too quickly because the exploring for the mobs isn't there.
It's strange because in a loot centered game like an action RPG you'd think the easier and quicker it is to find the enemies the better. But it's the not knowing where anything is going to be as soon as you step outside of town that keeps it interesting. I hope that learn that for their new game.

Why do I seem to be the only person who found Titan Quest mind numbingly boring? As far as ARPGs come, progression in Titan Quest is painfully slow. The areas are excessively large just for the sake of forcing longer game play and it often takes hours to replace a piece gear with something better.
The whole success of diablo is constant small amounts of progression, the proverbial carrot on a stick. Titan Quest is more like a carrot on the end of a crane arm.

Loved Titan Quest. In my mind it's a better game than Torchlight and it even rivaled my love for D2.
Well hopefully they'll also beef up their DRM with Steam or something, since apparently it was piracy that killed the Lore. But realistically I think it might have been no marketing for TQ etc. Let's hope it looks and plays good enough to spread around.
Torchlight was a far better Diablo ripoff then Titan's Quest. So was Borderlands, actually. Titan's quest seemed really uninspired, honestly.
Titan's Quest was a great first attempt at emulating Diablo. It had a much different flow, but it achieved enough of the feel to capture some players. I had fun with it and am looking forward to seeing what they can do next. Especially after they've no doubt looked at what Torchlight has done. They would be fools to not.
I wonder what the numbers of each are, how well they did in comparison. Of course Torchlight was cheaper, and Titan's Quest has been out longer... but still, would be interesting to look at.
Borderlands... is an FPS as far as I'm concerned. Not a knock against it at all, but it certainly doesn't have the clickity clickity clicks that a true action RPG should have. Perhaps there is still a mix of both styles that could be done?
