DJ Hero over Uncharted 2 is hilarious.

im surprised, yet glad, that dj hero made it on the list. I feel like many people (including me, until i played it) were going to write it off as another half assed "hero" game before they even gave it a chance. And it deserves a chance, because the game is fun as hell.
It's a shame that Street Fighter IV will not make any of these lists probably.

Batman Arkham Asylum is hands down my GOTY.
I haven't even heard of Geo-Defense Swarm, though, so obviously I know nothing of video games.

I'd say that's reasonable. I haven't played Mordern Warfare 2, so I can't comment on that one. And I probably wouldn't have Arkham Asylum ahead of ODST, Borderlands, and Uncharted 2. And either BlazBlue or Street Fighter IV should be in instead of Scibblenauts. Heck, throw RE5 in somewhere in the bottom half, too.
Scribblenauts and Geo-Defense Swarm are the only surprises. The rest is just triple A material taken from the most recent sales charts. As much as some people complained about it in the forums, I'm really glad that Dtoid kept recent releases off the Top 50 of the Decade list.
The fact that ODST is even in a top ten list besides the top ten Halo titles discredits them entirely.
Its nice to see Scribblenauts make a list, even if it disqualifies itself for poor gameplay options. And even though it's TIME's weak list.
Dragon Age takes too much time to make it on...TIME's list.
I'm surprised they didn't have Ghostbusters on their list.
And like others have said, 2009 lists need some fighting game presence with SFIV or BlazBlue. This was a major fighter year.

Comparing different genres in one list whether it be for end of year, end of decade, end of humanity purposes or simply because it looks good is an activity that only retards engage in.

I think every year they just ask the mail clerk if he plays video games, and what his top 10 of the year would be.
Took me a bit to even FIND the damn game, but it's called "Geodefense Storm" or "Geodefense Swarm" depending on where you look.
It's a iPhone tower defense game that costs $1 and actually looks pretty neat, though I'd say it's completely obvious that there's just one dude on staff that was like "OMG GEODEFENSE STORM IS THE BEST GAME EVAR PUT IT ON THE LIST!!" and kept badgering them until they did.
Or maybe it was put up there because of it's value for the money?

I'm kinda shocked that Scribblenauts is on there. I was hyped for the game before it came out and would have expected to see it on a top-ten upcoming games list, but afterwards, the game just seems like a short-lived novelty... like... ball-in-a-cup, or a yak-back.
I spent months waiting for that game, soaked in all the hype, and shelved it almost immediately after purchase.
As a new PS3 owner, I haven't even had the chance to pick up Uncharted 2 yet, but I guess I'm still a little surprised it didn't place higher given the critical praise.
I did play New Super Mario Bros. Wii though, and that game rocked!

Couldn't agree more. Just beat the campaign last night and I've still got a boner. Most exciting game I've played in years (and I couldn't care less about the multiplayer).
That said, I haven't played Uncharted 2 yet (hoping the wife buys it for me for Christmas), but I'm surprised by its low placement.

Looks more like a top ten list of what publishers and retailers want you to buy rather than a comprehensive look into which games are good. DJ Hero? Oh, hello marketing! I see you there. And really... Uncharted 2 was much better than MW2.
Quite a few surprises... but mostly surprises that make me think the list was elaborated by someone that only played 2 o 3 games in the entire year and then have to ask some friend to fill the list, and have to mix platforms so it won't offend people.

GD Swarm is a great game, but I wouldn't even put it in the top 10 iPhone games of the year (and number one is Drop 7).
Look, I liked ODST. I like the Halo series. I didn't mind that the story was contrived and the campaign was short.
But I don't think it earned a top 10 spot.

DJ hero is bloody divine. It's so gooood. Batman was perfect (I could find no flaws), and scribblenauts deserves a place on the list for an awesome and fun idea, despite crap for controls.
