It's almost the end of the year, which means that top ten lists and reflective features are all the rage. Time magazine is among the first to print its definitive top ten games of 2009, and I'm sure you can all guess which game has taken the top slot -- that's right, Velvet Assassin!
I mean, Modern Warfare 2.
Surprisingly, Batman: Arkham Asylum takes second position while DJ Hero somehow manages to be the third best game of the year. Here is the complete rundown of Time's picks. See how much you agree/disagree with the mag's selection:

Whatever, it's still fun to critique and flame these lists - even if they don't mean much save for selling a few more titles.
These lists should just be called games of the end of the year. Decent picks though.
I haven't even heard of Geo-Defense Swarm, though, so obviously I know nothing of video games.
PS-Halo 3: ODST above Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed II? Um, no.

I'm surprised they didn't have Ghostbusters on their list.
And like others have said, 2009 lists need some fighting game presence with SFIV or BlazBlue. This was a major fighter year.

That game came out proud this year and showed some of the old dogs how it should be done
It's a iPhone tower defense game that costs $1 and actually looks pretty neat, though I'd say it's completely obvious that there's just one dude on staff that was like "OMG GEODEFENSE STORM IS THE BEST GAME EVAR PUT IT ON THE LIST!!" and kept badgering them until they did.
Or maybe it was put up there because of it's value for the money?

I spent months waiting for that game, soaked in all the hype, and shelved it almost immediately after purchase.
As a new PS3 owner, I haven't even had the chance to pick up Uncharted 2 yet, but I guess I'm still a little surprised it didn't place higher given the critical praise.
I did play New Super Mario Bros. Wii though, and that game rocked!
Couldn't agree more. Just beat the campaign last night and I've still got a boner. Most exciting game I've played in years (and I couldn't care less about the multiplayer).
That said, I haven't played Uncharted 2 yet (hoping the wife buys it for me for Christmas), but I'm surprised by its low placement.

ODST over Uncharted 2? DJ Hero at number 3? Who knows Geo-Defense Swarm, and why the name sounds like yet another tower defense game? Is for real that an iPhone game is on that list? And, while MW2 is, no doubt, the most popular game of this (and any) year, it is not the best game of the year....

DJ hero is bloody divine. It's so gooood. Batman was perfect (I could find no flaws), and scribblenauts deserves a place on the list for an awesome and fun idea, despite crap for controls.
