Let's get the obvious out of the way here: if you don't know who Tim Gunn is, he's the fashion guy from Project Runway (that's really doing a disservice to his many credits, but it'll do). As such he knows a lot about fashion. For some reason he was hanging out with the guys from MTV Multiplayer, and during his time there he was asked to critique Mario's overalls and work boots. You'll have to head over there as Multiplayer has disabled embedding on the video.
Ever the gentleman, Gunn shies away from flat-out blasting Mario's wardrobe choices, and decides to compliment them as functional. This of course assumes the fact that Mario does some actual plumbing, which I think it's pretty safe to say he does not. I think we should give Mario a break here, especially since his outfit was designed more around the fact that Miyamoto needed a way to distinguish his body parts than a need to dress the plumber fashionably. One does have to wonder where Princess Peach would fall on Gunn's fashion scale, considering the fact that that pink dress is neither functional or fashionable.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I hope someday you join us in the 21st century.

"Oh wow, the racoon suit is so earthy."
LMAO
It's really strange to see such a straight-faced review of Mario's clothes.
I'm in the 21st century and I'm pretty sure homophobia is alive and well. Just sayin'.
Weird.
