Need more Halo in your life? Good. Warner Entertainment just dropped the release date and packaging details of Halo Legends, an eight-episode anime series that explores the fiction of the Halo universe. According to that official release, three versions of the game are slated to thump onto shelves on February 9th.
The series will be distributed as both a Special Edition and a standard DVD package
The SE -- available on DVD and Blu-ray -- is a 2-disc joint, featuring “Making Of” segments for each episode, as well as an exploratory piece on how Halo has progressed since it’s Xbox days (“Halo: Gaming Evolved”), audio commentary with Frank O’Connor and Joseph Chou, and widescreen format.
The Blu-ray version of the SE package will include an even more extra bonus called “Halo: the Story So Far,” which documents the fiction from the original game to Halo 3. The standard DVD, on the other hand, will just have the episodes.
The SE sets are priced at 29.98 and 34.99 for the DVD and Blu-ray respectively, while the single disc will be available for $19.98.
Also, these episodes can be purchased digitally. Somewhere. Somehow.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If only they would release it on HDDVD, then I'd be ecstatic.
But still. Haloz in a PS3? Weird.
There are a lot of people who own real BD players too, and not a PS3. It's just the new format, and like it or not they have to upgrade or stick with standard DVD's.
On that note, the PS3 won't output BD discs in 60hz, so motion is horribly choppy if your TV doesn't support a 24hz output. I hear standalone players don't have this problem. So a lot of people could realistically have a PS3 and a true BD player.
Still, shit looks amazing on Blu.
Huh, bit of a twighlight zone moment there.
The same people who read the book, listen to the audio books and watch the machinama. They aren't aimed at anyone else. If you think along the lines of FF: AC, this is content for gamers and anime fans if they want it.
Have to hand it to MS, some of those episodes were actually good. I'd love to see a full series with more detail about the universe, though.
I sure people at Japanator would want to watch anime. However, I would not want to watch animé based off of Halo. Sounds too much like milking.
6 Episodes for $35? Who do they think they are? FLCL? I do have to agree, Halo and Blu-Ray is just weird.
@RenagadePanda
News: Sony gets royalties from every Blu-Ray player, disk, logo, case, ect. sold. So in the end, Sony is getting money from teh Halos.
True, but Microsoft gets the same for every copy of Windows running on a Sony Vaio, or WMobile running on a Sony smartphone. So it doesn't seem odd to me, just business.
That comment comes from a guy sporting a Japanese moniker. You yourself are an anomaly.
I can't wait to see it all - there's a metric-ass-ton of talent they've recruited for this project.
-Having a spartan armor in your Home apartment
-Having spartan helmet for you Home avatar.
-Cortana-sackboy with the Plasma Sword.
-Marathon 1 and 2 for PSN\PSP
-Plasma Sword for GOW3
-RVB premium theme
I think you underestimate gamers, Norton. A lot of them do enjoy games, anime comics and the like (the kind of stuff PAX/ComicCon celebrate), not just one or the other, myself included. An anime about Halo works, just as good if not better than one about Street Fighter , which have been good enough too.
The irony of your statement combined with your Japanese username is quite amusing. But really, replace anime with any other hobby and you'll have already answered your question.
As for the Halo anime itself, I'm personally interested, if just because of the sheer talent they have working on it. Shinji Aramaki, Production IG, and Bones? Those are some serious heavy hitters right there.
