Three Silent Hill games coming winter 2012 photo

Konami has laid out their Silent Hill line-up for 2012 with a press release today. It's three games in a row for the first three months of next year.

First is Silent Hill HD Collections, a visually upgraded pack containing Silent Hill 2 and 3, set to release January 24. There's also new voice acting -- that could be really scary!

February brings Silent Hill Book of Memories, for the PS Vita. We have new screenshots for Memories in our gallery below. I'm on the fence with this one.

March is the big one: Silent Hill:Downpour. I'm hoping for good things with the last one. We haven't seen enough of it to make a solid call.

So, what do you think? Is 2012 the best year ever for Silent Hill fans? Or is it too much too fast?

Considering that one of these is an Alan Wake-esque game with Korn in it, the other is an arcade-y action game with the franchise name slapped on it, and the other is a collection of games true fans have already played... this year is iffy for Silent Hill fans. Although I'm kind of bluffing, because I'm going to get all of these... ^^"

I don't know about Silent Hill Downpour, I read some preview for it and it just sounded straight up bad, and the control were bad. Maybe that's why it got delayed but hopefully ends up being good. I'm going to get the Collection for sure though

I'll definitely buy the HD collection, and I'll rent Downpour.

I played Downpour at the Eurogamer Expo, which was more than enough time to make the call that the game is going to be dreadful. Don't get your hopes up, fans of non-boring, well-designed gaming entertainment.

Konami should forget about silent hill for a good time, like 10 years or something.

Yeah, Silent Hill has just been kind of petering out. Although I did quite enjoy Shattered Memories' interpretation. If nothing else, these guys are going to be more faithful than Homecoming.

I'm up for the HD collection, about the vita game, I still don't know, and about Downpour, I gave up all my hopes for non-japanese SH after Homecoming.

Three not so great Silent Hill games I would say. I tried Downpour and I found it boring, the enemies are not disturbing at all, and the levels look like they were taken from Alan Wake. Book of Memories, well, let's just pretend it doesn't exist. An HD collection sounds really good, despite having already played umteen times Silent Hill 2 and 3, but the fact that it doesn't include the first one it's unforgivable.

Why skip the original with the HD Collection? What's the fucking point!? Ditto Metal Gear.

I'm not buying the collection without the old voices, if those are added than I'll be all over it. Not interested in the Vita game. Will wait for reviews on Downpour, but don't really like what I've heard so far.

Unless they redo the controls on the HD collection I think I'll pass. Love SH2 but man are the controls horrendous.Downpour I have little to no faith in I hate to say. The graphics look bad, the gameplay looks to be awful, and the monsters look like zombies with what seems to be a Ringu influence. And that new arcade style game... no, simply no. Silent Hill died after the Room and some will even argue that it died before that. In my humble opinion they should simply let the series die unless they want to remake two or three by giving it a face lift and some tighter controls. I am sad to say it, but I hope they just let the Silent Hill series rest in piece after this new one, and if they can some how make Downpour amazing and recapture what made Silent Hill great, if they can make me feel like a unwelcome guest in my own home then I'll buy it day one.

I'm sad to say that I played Downpour at E3 and was seveeeerrreeely disappointed. There's just really not much there that distinguishes it from the last few mediocre Silent Hill games we've gotten.

The voiceacting is kind of a deal breaker for the HD collection. Seems obvious. Figure it out, Konami! We're cult fans, we like our shit relatively untouched. If it ain't broke, don't break it.

I'm actually kind of intrigued by the Vita game. Just because it looks soooo different.

I wouldn't call it too much too fast.

I'd call it "Raping a dead horse".

Sorry, I'm jaded :P

after Silent Hill HD Collection and Downpour.

i may never buy a SH game if this keeps up.

such a shame how a legendary franchise got drag by it's feet by the stupidity of konami.

im worry if MGS might come next.

if that happens i hope Kojima goes to grasshopper manufacturer.

he'' definitely put the company on the map :P

"I'm on the fence with this one."

Why so skeptic, Dale? Is it mostly the perspective change?

I kind of look forward to seeing how WayForward handle Silent Hill: Book of Memories as a stand alone good experience.

I'll buy the HD collection, but the true horror will be waiting for the reviews of the other two games.

The VAs for James and Eddie for SH2 signed a rights waiver(), there are also rumors for SH3's VAs doing the same. So there is still a chance for the game to ship "untouched", besides the HD aspect.

Konami = not taking a hint.

I know it's all about licensing rights and such bureaucratic BS, but couldn't they have made an effort to bring at least the first three SH into the HD collection? Sorry but it just feels wrong to have an HD collection missing the game that started it all. I don't know what was the situation, but Konami could've relent a bit on the contract for it and make this a solid release. It just screams greedy that they won't go the extra mile to bring a proper package to their costumers.

No comment on the multiplayer piece of shit. Waiting anxiously for Downpour not to being an utter disappointment.

HD collection is a definate for me, Book of Memories can fuck off (which is a shame, because I quite like WayForward), and I really badly want Downpour to be good, but I'll have to wait and see. I think it could still turn out well with the delay. Or not.

Silent Hill HD Collection: A definite buy
Silent Hill on Vita: I'm buying a Vita, so this is a maybe. I'll see how it reviews.
Silent Hill Downpour: Again, I'll see how it reviews and then maybe get it on sale.

They should have just let Climax make another game, Shattered Memories was the only one since 3 that doesn't seem to be universally hated. Nope, instead they peddled it off to Vatra who doesn't seem to understand the series at all and didn't even bother asking Yamaoka to come back.

I've got high hopes for Downpour, hopefully Konami will make use of the extra development time and polish it up to the nines... The HD collection will be a definite must buy for me, SH2 is one of my favourite games. Book of memories looks dodgy but I'm a sucker for anything silent bill so I'll probably end up buying it....
