Three new online Burnout Paradise modes revealed

Three new online Burnout Paradise modes revealed photo
     Electronic Arts

As previously reported, Criterion Games will be delivering a significant update to Burnout Paradise, in what they're calling "Codename: Bogart," or "the Cagney update." Today, the team has revealed three new online gameplay modes that will be added when the update hits next week.

The first is online "Stunt Run," an 8-player competition where players compete for the highest score within a two minute time limit. An 8-player team event, "Online Road Rage," will also be added; in this mode, one team of "runners" attempts to reach checkpoints, with the other team attempting to take them down. Finally, "Marked Man" makes its way to the online space -- in 90 second intervals, one player is chosen as the marked man, ith other players attempting to take him/her down.

For more detailed information on the new modes, head over to Criterion's blog. You may also want to take note of the following sentence: "Over the next 12 months, we're going to transform the Burnout Paradise you know and love into the Burnout Paradise you only ever dreamed of!"

Do I hear any complains?

After I heard about these updates and how Criterion provided continued support, I went out and ordered this game.

Anytime I hear about paid DLC, I move away from that game.

So the game came out and then it takes another 12 months for them to give you the full game... If they charge for some of this stuff it would be ridiculous. the only extra download I have paid for is mass effect. I don't like to pay extra on a game that i already spent $60 on. I really liked mass effect and was willing to pay for that download, but I rarely ever do.

But if they don't charge then it's cool

Hmm.. I'll probably pick this game up when it hits $30 or less.

Hmm, if it was a free update that would be sweet... but I doubt it

Finally. Road Rage was the best mode in Revenge, so a 4 on 4 will be great, especially with the map in Paradise. Might be enough to get me back into the game. Hope there's some new achievements too.

The demo was such a dissapointment to me that I decided to stick with Burnout Revenge :-)

@king

I'm pretty sure they said it was going to be free at some point. I might be mistaken though.

I played this for about 20 minutes before packing it back up and mailing it back to GameFly. The open world was so fucking annoying to navigate.

I didn't think Criterion could ever destroy my love of their Burnout franchise (I've bought and played through all the previous versions) but alas, I was wrong.

I'm with you B-Radicate.
It is my most pristine disc, ebay time methinks. I think that this will be money towards GTA.
In my humble opinion they broke it with the open world, I need my racing spoon fed to me.

I really like this game. Most racing games are too hardcore racing for me.

I dont want to spend time tuning up my car and buying new tires.

I want to jump off of ramps and smash through billboards high in the sky. This game does that rather well.

These new modes sound really good, the come can use a few new modes. Im pumped for this!!

Criterion has said in the past that the expanded city will be free, however they will charge for new car downloads. Whether or not this is still true is debateable.

They need to drop the price of this already, no one is buying it anymore.

This sounds awesome, they've really done great with this game and the constant additional content.

Awesome! I loved Paradise, but didn't care for the lack of online Road Rage. I can't wait for this update. :D

1. Additional content requires a staff of artists and designers to create and design additional content. Rarely are those folks willing to work for free. Thus, often times additional content comes with a price. You guys know this, so why all the complaining? Get a job or ask your parents for a raise.

2. Additional content requires a staff of artists and designers to create and design additional content. Usually, these folks are working on the content that comes in the original game for 1-2 years. At that length of time, people already complain about "it takes soooooo long omfg cant tey just put owt the gaym olredey!!1!". So they put out the game, as is at the 2 year mark. Once they have done so, they can begin working on additional content to improve the foundation they have built. You guys know this, so why the "additional content should have already been in the game. They release unfinished games!!1" Please, just go bury yourself in an avalanche and wait for the complete package instead of whining day in and day out.

No complaints here, but I believe the statement should have gone "Over the next 12 months, we're going to transform the Burnout Paradise we gave you into the Burnout Paradise you wanted!"

Still, as long as it comes in the form of free updates, I wholeheartedly applaud this decision.

Also, I too hated the open world environment, but after giving it some time I've found it makes the races (and Road Rage, I suspect) immensely more interesting in that you can't be a dipshit driving around as much as in the previous versions. You have to be a lot more vigilant about your route and the game doesn't just steer your through the course.
