Electronic Arts has announced that games from three major publishers -- THQ, Warner Brothers and Capcom -- will soon be made available via EA's Origin service. This is the first major step toward Origin becoming a full-fledged digital distribution marketplace.
Batman: Arkham City and Saints Row: The Third have been confirmed for Origin releases, and EA makes it quite clear that it has plans to include more publishers in future.
"Since launch, we’ve had overwhelming support from both publishers and developers across the gaming industry, recognizing Origin as an opportunity to deliver more of their great content straight to consumers across the globe," said Origin senior VP David DeMartini. "We’re excited to welcome Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, THQ and Capcom as the first publishers to offer their games via Origin."
So ... when are we getting Call of Duty up this grill?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I really have no problem with this. If you don't want to use Origin for these, continue using Steam.
Either way, lets see if EA will make a return to Steam, where superior features are offered, and many have an already established library.
Arkham City is still on steam
Oh......heh heh.....whooops.
The fact that PC games are all going this route worries me slightly, it's fine now but I can see it being abused in the near future, especially when big name publishers like EA are behind it. I guess I just don't trust them.
I remember when you bought a PC game at a store and installed it, and that was it. I miss those days.
Well that character customization demo will be available on Steam so the full game should be on there as well
They still need to improve origin itself plus price their games competitively. Exclusivity to origin with high prices will just make me walk away. Its not as if theres a shortage of alternatives with all the games that are been made atm.
MAYBE.
May 2012: Warner Brothers, Capcom, and others pull from Steam entirely for Origin cash.
October 2012: Valve devs begin talking of putting games on Origin.
November 2012: Newell gets angry, vows destruction.
December 2012: The Mayans were right!
You think EA are going to cut prices by any significant degree?
...
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
So, yeah. Good luck, EA. You will need it.
P.S. Today a lot of people had troubles activating retail BF3 serials. Just saying
If not, then fuck em'. EA may be easy to label as the corporate monolith that embodies everything gamers hate about the industry, but they aren't stupid. While they are used to being the Goliath, they should be quite aware that they are David in the digital distribution arena. They are going up against Valve, a company that has built up an almost insurmountable sum of good will. EA will need to find a way to counter that if they want to survive.
"Hey, do you like fucking your customers really hard in the ass? Well come on over to Origin!"
The same could (and was) said about Steam when it first came out.
Yeah too bad you don't have, nor seem interested in getting support from customers.
Because the EA games I might *want* to play are on Origin and only Origin, and picking up a boxed copy forces me to install Origin.
That's not competition, that's monopoly.
Personally, I love Steam, but I don't see how that is any less monopolizing than EA's offer.
Quite likely that if EA stick with Origin, it'll get better as well. Additionally, more ways to get digital content will presumably lead to better deals for us - competition & all that.
That said, it will probably get better and more accepted, at least I hope it will.
I got all the Bioware games for 60% off when they were doing a promo last weekend. Right now Crysis 2 is 60% off and You get $20 added to your account for preordering Mass Effect 3. They're trying, they just don't have much to sell yet.
I'm happy I got such great deals. It's just too bad that I keep getting download errors and whatnot. It's been almost a week since I bought my games and the only thing that managed to finish downloading was ME2. And that was only after several hours of customer support chat and a few CD key swaps. Hell, they even took all of the games off my account by accident one time. Took 2 CS reps 3 hours to figure out how to put my shit back. It's a nightmare at the moment, so I don't recommend anyone fooling with it if they don't have to.
Not bad. Turns out I am oblivious to this however since they don't do any of this in Europe.
The best I saw was £5 off years old games that we're well overpriced to begin with.
