Rainbows everywhere, getting invaded by Samus Aran, being in every covenant at once, making it rain souls, giving the player character Fuh Dos Ra, and making it more like Castlevania, scratch that, I've already done the Castlevania "mod" on the X360 :P
It doesn't hurt that Dark Souls was my favourite game of last year.
Also, KING'S FIELD REBOOT OR ETERNAL RING REMAKE NAO.
What seemed to make Demons Souls special was its PS3 exclusivity, making Xbox owners jealous around proving their gaming cred. Losing that in Dark Souls, well I don't have any number but I have seen a more blunted response to the sequel.
Now, PC gamers will be able to see through the silly little games of increasing difficulty by limiting save games, and will probably have a proper game modded within a month.
Without the exclusivity and having normal saves, Dark Souls can be properly compared to other RPGs on the basis of content and gameplay, at which point it will be revealed to be okay, but not a pinacle of the genre.
From Software and NamcoBandai have already made their money back on the game and ports aren't that expensive. Not to mention PC games don't have to be considered a success or failure based on first day, first week, or even first month sales. As long as it's a good port with some proper support, a good price, and no bullshit like SecuROM the game will continue to sell for years. Nearly 15k (as it's up to now) is not a huge number, but it shows some potential for support.
already bought the PS3 CE.
will double dip for sure :P
also CD Projekt give us The Witcher 2 on PS3 so that i can play both of these titles on PC and PS3 :)
Your concerns about PC modders dumbing it down aren't without merit, but please be a big boy about Dark Souls being on Xbox. It was a better game for not being involved with Sony at all.
FS doesn't have to port it themselves. There are a few good studios out there to farm the port off on, but both FS and NB need to make sure to have some quality control over it and give the porting studio proper support, time, and money. If they do a quick and cheap port it'll never sell.
PS: I never liked King's Field, but I think the Souls games really work as properly done spiritual successors to it. I would actually like to see a sequel to Enchanted Arms. The game sucked, big time, but the world they crafted was really neat and the battle system was pretty good. Everything else about the game was horrible though.
Let's be honest here... Console hacking isn't even close to as big a problem as PC hacking is... it requires far less know-how (and potential hardware hacks) to mod PC games. There were some exploits that people used for Dark Souls, which was bad enough, but those were patchable gameplay issues. I didn't hear about any actual hacks for the console versions... not to say that it didn't happen, but it was not a major issue. Unless their architecture is already good at protecting against it (and I'm guessing its not), a PC version would get overrun with griefers. I think they'd probably need to completely disable any offline mode (or ala Diablo 2 have separate online and offline characters), and even if they did that I still doubt that it would be well protected online.
If they did do a PC version I'd probably would buy it day 1 assuming it wasn't a shit port.
Makes me excited since I upgraded my computer and can run plenty of modern games on ultra settings and still maintain 50-60 fps.
