Those 'leaked' Street Fighter IV pictures and information are true! photo

OH SNAP! Some very interesting developments have occurred since I posted those "leaked" Street Fighter IV pictures and information yesterday. Kotaku found out that Ziff-Davis has gone after the Brazilian blog site, Blogeek, for posting the pictures and information. Visiting Blogeek now, the site has been taken down and Doug left up a message showing how terrified he is:

IT WAS NOT OUR INTENTION TO MESS WITH ANYONE. LIKE EVERY NEWS SITE AND BLOG, WE JUST WANTED TO PASS INFORMATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE INTEREST FOR ANY SUBJECT.
JUST TO CLARIFY, WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY NDA, AND FAR LESS WE WOULD HACK ANYTHING FROM ZIFF DAVIS. A SOURCE CAME TO US AND PASSED SOME INFOS AND THE TWO PICTURES, AND WE PUBLISHED THEM.
ALTHOUGH WE STILL DON'T THINK WE SHOULD, WE REALLY WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE WHO GOT HURT WITH THE INCIDENT.
ZIFF DAVIS WAS THREATENING US, AND WE ARE REALLY AFRAID, OF COURSE. THAT'S ALL.

Before you go feeling bad for the "little guy" because "the man" is trying to bring him down, you should hear the other side of the story.

Turns out that Doug is a freelancer for EGM Brazil. Dan Hsu told Kotaku that they found proof that Doug stole the information from Ziff by abusing his working relationship with the company. Doug has also admitted to the theft as well. ZD is also angry at Kotaku for defending Blogeek and not contacting anyone at Ziff for the full story on this situation.

So lets recap: Blogeek stole an exclusive, Ziff brought the hammer down, Kotaku tried to stick up Blogeek, Ziff got angry at Kotaku for defending Blogeek and not searching for the whole truth, and the pictures and information are all over the place now including here at Destructoid

It all boils down to Doug and his jackassery for trying to get some easy hits by stealing content away from EGM which will be all over the place in a week anyway.

it's quite sad that even now we're finding drama on the net. It's just a silly race of "who puts it up first"

I mean either way, people are gonna buy EGM mags. So i'm sure this didn't hurt anyone but Dougie himself.

Amazing Picture. It sounds like Ziff-Davis Defiantly has the grounds to go forth with a lawsuit. This could get interesting, or get really boring!

Well, the 'Sheng Long' thing makes more sense now, I wonder if that was a 'watermark' of sorts to see if anyone else would run the story before they could?

@Jim "McMonocle" Sterling: "Destructoid needs to find something to sue. I don't wanna be left out of all the fun."

Sue Ziff Davis for not protecting their exclusive information well enough. This lack of protection caused "corrupt information" (hereafter known as "information") to be leaked onto the internet, which is where Destructoid (hereafter known as "you") resides. This "information" has tainted what was once the pristine utopia known as the internet, and as a result, has caused significant emotional and financial damages to "you".

video game blog sites = movie star paparazzi?! Two pics and a tiny ass story that's gonna be public in a little while? why not just save your job and post them the same day as when the mag hits. Personally, the more publicity for the game the better... but not bad publicity.

There is no such ting as "he should have taken more care of the information so the guy couldn't get at it." It doesn't matter if he left the pictures on a table in a restaurant, or if he had them hidden in a safe. All that matters is you you you you you took them. How easy it may have been to get is irrelevant, I'll repeat that, its irrelevant. If in fact they were taken from him, without his consent, its considered stealing.

Try it sometime, take some woman's purse if she leaves it at a restaurant, don't attempt to give it back to her, and then get caught with it by her boyfriend, see what happens.

he actually threw his job away for 2 screens that would've been all over the net one week from now anyway?

"Ziff Davis are threatening us, and we are really afraid of course"

Is that an hint of sarcasm, or is he 12 years old and really afraid? o_0

Between the caps and bad grammar ("INFOS"?), I think that dude has a great shot at being one of those foreign guy e-mail spammers who want to make a "deposit" into your account if the whole video game thing doesn't work out.

Hey, I am the owner of Blogeek. I just want to say that Dan Hsu is not telling the truth. I did NOT admit that I had access to the FTP and stole the pics, because I didn't. That's right, I write some things to EGM Brasil, but I'm just a freelancer. Do you really think that they would give the ftp password to a freelancer?! Think about it.

I had a source who gave me the pics and info. But of course, it's so easy to think that the stronger side is right. They will keep accusing me until I reveal who my source is, that's the point. I was set and done with Ziff. I put the images and the site down, and apologized, just as they asked me to. And now they come with this. I'm really surprised.

okay... Ive been playing alot of Pheonix Wright and I think I got a case for you guys

you should sue Neogamer for putting you into the risk of being sued by posting potentially (whether ACTUALLY or not) illegal pictures by putting them on his site. Hes tampered with your reputation and damaged your valuable brand.

Neogamer if you want to defend yourself your gonna need to let me poke at your story with a stylus.

PS. The idea of Street Fighter 4 gives me chills in my spine and I am so incredibly gratefull that you got these pictures for me a week before EGM would have. A week in excited gamer time is a hundred weeks in real person time... and since theres millions of street fighter fans youve basically saved the collective world hundreds of millions of weeks of time.

Even if you go to jail for the rest of your life (I hear there pretty bad in Brazil) you STILL will have contributed more to the betterment of the world than most people. I'm so sorry I'm gonna have to get all Pheonix Wright on that ass
