This Week in the Community: Refused Drunkcastifailcastion photo

This week's gaming setup belongs to JayOhhBee.  His setup is nothing crazy, just an overall good and well organized collection. Really, I just love how it's all so well organized. For more of JayOhhBee's setup, check out his Commuity Blog.

atheistium shows off her BioShock 2 swag, the new community podcast Drunkcast debuted, Samit pops his collar, the Trading Forums are great, kitae brings us Mass Effect 2 goodness, Ashley draws some more awesome things and plenty more happened this past week in the Community.

Refused Classification episode 8 with special guest TheCleaningGuy.

GamingGoddess made this Super Sailor Moon sculpture.

This ... this actually happened. Anthony Burch is smiling and happy and ... *head asplode*

IRC is all about poop.

Zen Albatross gave us a nice collection of chiptunes to listen to as he does every week.

atheistium got some of the awesome BioShock 2 swag that's been going around. She then almost breaks her rare swag.

The first episode of Drunkcast debuted this past week. The show is hosted by Dtoiders BigPopaGamer, Counting Conflict, Coonskin05 and blehman. The podcast is about the Destructoid community while the four of them get drunk as Hell.

By the time you read this, RAB should be on his way back home from EVO. Hopefully he rocked the competition.

Arttemis got some awesome stuff! He's also going to PAX.

DtoidNewYork now has a Twitter, Facebook and Flickr group. The Community Blogs just aren't enough to keep track of what this group is doing all the time. Speaking of their epic parties, here's a recap of Keener's party. Also, video of Samit Sarkar singing his popped collar heart out.

Faith made a 8-bit keyboard cat bead art. Nice job!

JohnnyViral got some awesome stuff!

If you got a minute, give Drel your best wishes. He really needs it right now.

ScottyG loves the Destructoid Trading Forums. You should check it out and see if you can find that game you've always been looking for!

Reminder folks: If you're going to San Diego Comic-Con next weekend and want to hang out with other Dtoiders, just hit up aborto thefetus!

Jack Maverick drew Ashley Davis. So cute!

megaStryke got some sweet swag!

Dtoider kitae is the lead system designer on Mass Effect 2. She has some questions for you all and wants to know what your favorite game with a hard mode is.

Ashley Davis shares with us some more of her amazing artwork.

whormongr found some super rare retro goodness.

kauza got some awesome prizes!

Highlights end with a look at all of this stuff that I'm bringing with me to PAX.

Happy birthday wishes go out to DaedHead8 (a couple of weeks early), Suff0cat, McSnow, digtastik, Necros lv99ron and Sam Spectre.

It's nice to see that my oh-so beloved, iconic hat/beanie/whatever made it onto the front page of Destructoid. (To the right of Samit's popped collar.) Of course, it's barely visible and on Nintendoll's head, but still. I take my small victories where I can get them. (And by the way, Samit had his collar popped for the entire weekend. He'll deny it; just watch.)

No PS3 or Wii? Psshhh that guy is no gamer. Xbox, Xbox 360, and a gaming PC all play the exact same games. It's like owning 3 of the same consoles!

I'm sorry, not to dis, but what's with the last few gaming setups having tiny non hd crt tvs? Hd lcds are cheap and plentiful... maybe save some of your cash from adding to your game collection and upgrade so you can experience the ones you got as they were intended... just sayin.

Maybe we don't want one of those cheap and plentiful lcd's you're talking about. I don't want a cheap one, that's for sure. Also, it's easy for you to say we've got to buy something expensive without knowing what the situation is we're in right now. Why bother about someone else's TV anyway? I'd rather play 50 games on a CRT-TV than 1 game on an HD-TV... just sayin.

Hey man to each his own, I wasn't trying to troll on this, but if people are posting pics of there setup they can expect praise and criticism. In my opinion an ideal setup is all about balance to get the best experience, guess i look at things from the perspective of a home theatre enthusiast and you look at it from a collectors point of view, dunno. But you can get a similar size LCD w/ hdmi that does 1080p from newegg for ~$200, that's like 4 new games.

mcom8 & Takeshi:

I can see cases for both arguments here (not that its really an argument). I think a lot of people seem to forget that smaller sized LCD TVs even exist, so when they consider the option of buying an LCD they only think about the massive ones which are going to kill your bank account. At the same time, some people done care as much about how polished their games look, as the size or resolution of your TV won't stop you from enjoying the game if its a good title..... unless it's Battlefield. That shit is fucked on a CRT tv :(

It probably also depends on what kind of gamer you are. I really tend to leave the old generations behind as the new ones come out (I know, BLASPHEMY!) so I don't tend to keep old systems. This puts me in the minority of Dtoiders that doesn't have an N64, SNES, Genesis or Dreamcast at home. My oldest system that I've kept is a PS2, and it's not even hooked up! :(

Sooooo, for a person like me who only really plays current-gen games, it makes sense to spring for an LCD TV. For someone who still does a lot of retro gaming or what not, maybe it makes less sense. Definitely, if you play a lot of 360 or PS3, it's absolutely worth it. My LCD is only a 32" and it's a couple of years old so it's only 720p, and it's a MASSIVE difference from my old 27" standard definition TV.

Why didn't I see it before? Samit is drinking Newcastle Brown Ale. I used to love that stuff. Haven't had it for ages. So I don't know if I still like it.

@DanMazkin
I'm having a great time playing Battlefield on my CRT-TV. It really depends on what kind of CRT I guess. (p.s. LCD's are more expensive over here in Europe than in the US. I don't want the biggest around because my apt. is rather small. The one I want, a 32 inch Sony Full-HD 100Hz, is currently $1550. That's quite a lot of money.)

I was unaware that we had so many swag winners, grats to all those guys. Seeing those pictures of Burch terrifies me, I'm not kidding. And Ashley is still super cool, showing off more of her amazing artwork, and inspiring me to do more with my drawing capabilities.

heh I'm not a MS fanboy or anything I just went down that route and continued with it. I picked up a PS2 pretty late on so that I could experience some of the games that didn't come out on the Xbox. Also, owning a PS3 and a wii makes you a real gamer? That's news to me. I apologise if enjoying gears of war and halo on the only system they're on makes me any less of a gamer :/

In regard to my TV, the picture quality for 360 games is still very good and most of my games were made for SD tvs anyway so I see no point in buying a HDTV right now.

Thanks for featuring my set up Hamza, it was a bit of a suprise!
