I came to post the same thing. Seriously...save up a bit and get a decent TV. You can get a decent, A 40+" 1080p Plasma for well under 1000 bucks.
If that dude can buy a shit load of video games like that then he can definitely afford a god damn decent TV.
Also, if you can trust yourself to make payments, take advantage of 0 interest for a year type stuff. Just do the math and figure out what the minimum is to make sure it's paid in 12 months... and pay a little more than that. Try to have it paid off before you have to pay interest.
Not only does this allow you to get larger items easily, it helps build credit as long as you're always making your payments.
I grew up dirt poor. I'm not exactly rolling in the money now, but my wife and I can afford large purchases because we're careful about them. Try adding up exactly how much you spend on the small items that you think don't matter like eating out and buying one or two games. If you can find an area you're willing to cut back in a little, you can save a ton. Sure it might be only 6 bucks at McDonald's, but you're likely to do it more often because you think it's not a large amount.
Any one small shelf of games in that entertainment center could nearly pay for my 50" plasma.
Don't live paycheck to paycheck. Become financially responsible and you'll be a lot happier in the long run and be able to buy more overall.
