Quantic Dream has revealed a new trailer for its big PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain. Despite featuring the Japanese voiceovers, this new footage does not skimp on the epic, and makes the game look pretty bloody amazing. Drama, throat-slitting and women in tight vests are the order of the day. Oh, and shouting. Lots of shouting.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Quantic does with this game. It could be a huge triumph for story-driven gaming, or a spectacular failure, but it's going to be fun finding out either way. This video's got me pretty pumped, in any case.

Yeah that is a pretty good fucking trailer. It will be interesting to see the reception this game gets. Right now it can swing in so many different ways its hard to tell what people might think once it is released, probably because its so different. Anyways, I'm looking forward to this game but I will approach it with caution.
Graphics still looks amazing but their expressions at some times look stiff...
Still it looks a promising Pure Adventure game...a genre unknown by many who call it a movie and not a game
I hope it's my browser causing that horrible framerate.
I'll have to watch it at home with sound so I can hear these voiceovers. Might be worth importing if subtitles are included. I'm interested in this game, I really hope it delivers on my expectations.
They keep throwing stuff out there to make you want to buy this game, but I would have liked it more if I could understand exactly why everything was die and blowing up.
In that part where all the journalists where crowded around the car shouting questions and taking photos was anyone else reminded of the Madeleine McCann case and how the parents where always on the news? I’ve never seen anything like that done in a game before and I’m a lot more interested in Heavy Rain now.
The animation seems very wonky at times, and all the characters seem very wooden and emotionless. It's intriguing, and i'm definitely interested in the game play and story potentials. But as far as graphics go this game just doesn't look as good as the developers think it does, uncharted 2 blew the character models and animation out of the water months ago.
What are the chances of them actually getting good English voice actors for this though enough to be able to properly cover the story they are trying to convey. It appears to have a lot of emotion, and honestly there are very few games where the English voice actors are even remotely up to par to even cover what was shown in that trailer, let alone an entire game.
The game to me looks like something I definitely want, but I have a very strong feeling that they are not going to be able to obtain the voices they need, or put the budget into it properly.
The question is, did we just see one story or segments from all of them. Since actions you take changes the story, and Quantic wants us to just play it once, how much of the scenes in the trailer will we really see?
Yeah, this game will be amazing. LOADS of twists and turns.
Also, about the "hand chopping"...
:SPOLIER:
I read in a gaming mag over the weekend that this is actually the killer making you prove your love to your son by chopping off a finger. I wish I didn't read that either.
:SPOILER:
so many mixed feelings on this game.
the story looks completely engaging but i have my doubts about the QTE based gameplay.
it better be reeeeeeally well done or this could be a game where i throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak.
Some how Japanese language track sounds a lot more appealing than the English version. But, I might rent this game if this is a big hit. Other than that, I will just watch some movies instead of sitting in front of TV and looking at creepy, plastic looking CGI characters.
It's amazing how a sampling of the drama has made me look forward to the game again. If they can pull off a coherent and involving plot, I'll be sold. Then again, there are snippets that seemed a bit X-filesish, and he was holding a vial of liquid at some point ... so I'm worried about a repeat of Fahrenheit's endgame.
I laugh at anyone who is saying the game will suck because of QTEs. QTEs are a great gameplay mechanic when done right. Most games do not do them well, but Heavy Rain has shown that not only are they done creatively, but they are done in a fashion that does not require continual retries.
Messing up one only changes how a scene plays out rather than always ending in absolute death. And even in death, the story continues. The characters are not meant to have to live through the story. This game will be amazing. I am calling it now.

Totally agree. QTE's are shit and ruin games.
Also, it has a stupid name. The sequel will probably be called 'really windy'...possibly.

It better be good, because this game is the main reason why I buy'd a PS3

Looks like white people are going crazy.
