I'm not the biggest fan of the Call of Duty franchise. It takes itself way too seriously. The Metal Gear series, however, covers similar thematic territory with tongue planted firmly in cheek. If only Metal Gear's self-aware bombast and tension-breaking humor could be incorporated into the Modern Warfare world.
Enter Modern War Gear Solid, a crossover parody that finds Solid Snake teaming up with Infinity War's Ghost to battle the evil Activistsun empire. It seems that Activistsun has just acquired Outer Heaven and will use the added resources to build the greatest weapon known to man, Modern Gear. The real-world Activision / Infinity Ward connections are blatantly obvious, but it's that forwardness that gives the video it's charm. I also love how Solid Snake has become a parody of himself -- he can't stop staring at Naomi's boobies and mumbles barely audible nonsense not unlike Popeye.
Part two comes out next week, so look forward to that. Also, be sure to catch the Destructoid shout out during the credits!
Tony Ponce (aka megaStryke) is a culturally confused, Canadian-born Puerto Rican who grew up in Japan and South Florida ... yet can only speak English. He specializes in writing features and maintaining an immaculate goatee. Likes: Any and all things related to Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, 2D, PB&J sandwiches, applesauce, and candy corn.
Meet the rest of the team
... or the entirety of MGS3. The James Bond movie styled intro song, hilarious codec calls, the hilarious MGO trailer, the Secret Theater parody scenes.
MGS4 was really dry in comparison and still had its share of absurd/hilarious moments like the PS3's MGO trailer. I was worried but Peace Walker came back in fine form. I think Big Boss brings out Kojima's prankster side almost as much as Raiden.
Ohh... I didn't say it should be taken seriously, but it sees itself as way too seriouss (and its audience sees it too).
If you don't believe me, try saying in any gaming forum that MGS story is actually a tongue in cheek version of Tom Clancy/Ian Fleming-like stories, and shouldn't be over-thought or analised, and watch as shit hits the fan.

Translation: If you don't believe me be a troll in video game forums and watch people get mad.
I don't understand how some random gamers perception of a game has anything to do with a games perception of itself.
Anyways that was pretty wicked. It got particularly good toward the end there where the humor kind of got it's footing. Hope I don't forget to check up on Episode 2.
That actually was pretty damn funny. I cracked up at "Beans of the Patriots" and kept laughing from there. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for part 2. :D
I love both of the Medal of Honor and Metal Gear franchises. Play them both for the strategies, visuals, and great story lines. I also play Airsoft because I get to really hold and use replicas of the great guns that I use in both games. Playing tactical games for real also gives an added element of realism because you actually have a risk of being shot, but with a plastic bb. Check out this link to see what I'm taking about: http://www.airsplat.com/airsoft-video-games.htm
Ha! thats hilarious! i love those games, but i lean more towards COD. I dont really play any more since i got into airsoft. I found a site that sells the same guns used in those games, check it out!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And Tony, I think you got it wrong. Metal Gear is the one that takes itself way too seriously...

It's a YouTube video.

The only thing that put me off is that the 'facility' looks like a Holiday In just outside of Wakefield.
Friends had a wedding reception there last month - ruined the immersion!
Come to think of it, it's a good job I didn't see this video a couple of months ago - would have ruined the reception for me!
LIQUID!
Also, the mustaches were abnormally huge, which made it even more hilarious.
This is about the video. Not the two games.
