I remember the first time I played La-Mulana. Drawn in by its MSX-style graphics and the longing for another good action-adventure-y platformer, there was no way I wasn't going to dig this free game. Seeing this trailer for the upcoming WiiWare remake makes me realize, damn, I didn't get very far at all.

For you see, the game is pretty hard. When I haven't invested money in difficult games, I don't feel obligated to finish them; simple as that. The good news is, I love how a bunch of really solid independent games are getting Wiiware re-releases, like Cave Story.

That means I'll reaffirm my support for this trend with my wallet when La-Mulana releases. Maybe, just maybe, I will then have reason enough to make it further into the game and get my ass kicked by these awesome-looking bosses.

I've never even heard of this game before, but from that footage, it looks like a pretty awesome Metroidvania. I can dig it.

If people are too cheap to buy it on WiiWare, download Xpadder and play it for free on your PC. Do it, now! It's really great.

I guess I don't get it. I like the (hard as hell) PC version, as it looks and feels like an MSX game...that was core to how the game felt and played. With the new graphics, I'm just not feeling it.

Look fantastic, I'm so glad Wii is getting games like Cave Story and this. Now if only we could get Spelunky in some form.

Yeah, this looks really good. I'll just be happy to play things like this and Cave Story with a controller instead of a keyboard, personally.

@Walrus
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

You're like the ten thousandth person to say Cave Story can't be played with a controller on your PC :D

Download Joy2Key or Xpadder

Plug in ANY controller available - PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii-Motes

The above mentioned programs make it possible to play any PC game with a controller. Personally, I enjoy the ability to play with the controller of my choice that I am most comfortable with, rather than be forced into one option.

Super Meat Boy with a controller using the above method is also a God-send.

Holy mother of God. I'm peeing myself right now. The urine is trickling down my leg as I type this. I didn't even know this was being made. Now I need to finish playing the original...Well, that was my orgasm for the day.

Now that Nicalis actually put out something, I think I can go back to waiting patiently rather than giving up hope.

Weird, I just downloaded the freeware version of La-Manula this morning, and then this pops up. This looks great.

This game looks so awesome! I really, really hope it doesn't take as long to come out as Cave Story did...

I think it looks great. I loved the original, but it is still interesting to see how all the sprites look with a little more going on than just a single color and two frames of animation.

Also, the healing spring at 2:15 might be part of a larger move to make the game a little easier.

I was aware of, but never played the original. After watching this video though, I'm becoming interested. Very interested.

I can't wait for this to come out. I tried playing the original version, but didn't know what the hell I was doing. It's not very clear what happens when you solve a puzzle. I'm guessing that'll be a little more obvious in this version.
