Ni no Kuni is kind of a big deal because you don't see videogame adaptations of Studio Ghibli movies. Some ass hats completely mucked up Nausicaä back in the day, completely souring Hayao Miyazaki to the concept for life. Know what, though? The less shameless cash grabbing in this world the better. Can you imagine what Grave of the Fireflies for the Famicom would be like? Press A to scoop your sister's ashes into a candy tin!

Still, this cute little video by Mee-lin and Feegrita Sinclair of a fake Ponyo Game Boy Color game is pretty lovely. The Ponyo chiptune theme is spot on, as is the nearly static GBC "cutscene." It's a shame that the only "gameplay" footage is a small bit in which Ponyo runs across fish made of water. I was holding out for a ham-eating minigame!

Lol. That's fucked up. One of my all time favorite movies right there.

Your'e not a man unless Grave of the Fireflies made you cry.

I found it in a VHS bargain bin once upon a time. Took it home, watched it and it made me cry. Passed it on to my brother, he cried. He passed it on to just about everyone I know and they all cried. Maybe it would be more accurate to say "You're not a human unless Grave of the Fireflies made you cry.

I don't understand why people get so choked up about fireflies. The kids died because of the brother's ineptitude. His aunt was a cunt, but chances are they would have lived if they stayed with her. He gets no sympathy from me. I cried more times during the original run of futurama. That's not even a joke, i cried on two different occasions with futurama. And whats with futurama nowadays. It lost its soul. Soeaking of soul, does anyone else want a newjet grind game? Best cell shaded games ever! Hey, werent the metal gear acid games cell shaded? I want a funnel cake. What was i writing about in the first place? Im going to go make a taco. .

I'm glad Miyazaki didn't go greedy corporate with Ghibli's movies and make awful games, although a bit sad he didn't consider to branch into them. He (and the studio) have always left a finished project well darn alone, and I love them for that. Sure, you can get a bunch of merchandise, but you'll never see them take advantage of the movies' fame and go around making crappy sequels or messing up with the story. Once it's done, IT'S DONE.

If they ever plan to go into games, they should make their own branch/department and take care of it themselves. Ni No Kuni is an exception since it's not based on one of their movies.

Yeah, sure. It was the kids fault that the Bomb fell. And the aunt could have totally done something against Leukemia. You're a brainy.

Also, when I was a kid my dad's friend gave me a souvenir from his trip to Japan. It was a candy tin, and it had the Grave of the Fireflies characters on it. I never thought anything about it until I was older and watched the movie, and now I sort of find the idea kinda creepy and sad. Why would I want that candy? :(

@Watts: Do you realize it is based on a semi-autobiographical novel? The author lost not one, but two little sisters after the bombings.

So yeah, pretty stupid guy for being a confused kid after a horrible disaster.

People who don't cry during Grave of the Fireflies are robots. Not that robots are bad. Robots are cool! They just don't have emotions. Or warmth.

Really Tony? GameBoy Colour? Far too many colours for GBC (as well as the fading effect on the text?). Much more akin to Wonderswan: GBA/SNES style graphics with 8-bit sound.

I expected better from a man like you.

@Avalon

Read what the original link was tagged as. Anyway, the short bit at the end might have been a little too detailed, but the intro and title screen could definitely have been recreated on a GBC. Just ask WayForward.

The Mario sound effects were a little off-putting. Other than that, quite cute.
