This is what Perfect Dark XBLA looks like photo

Rare has sent over a handful of screenshots showing how Perfect Dark's Xbox Live Arcade remake is looking. The short of it is that it's looking pretty damn good. Everything's been given a fresh coat if paint to make Perfect Dark XBLA look sleeker, smoother and sexier than the N64 original.

If you're cynical about the improvements, feel free to head on over to Rare's Web site and click the comparison shots. The rest of you, let us know if you're planning to pick this up. I know it's no GoldenEye, but it's good to see that the rest of Rare's old games are getting the downloadable treatment.

The rest of them? Where's my DK64 remake?

Looks a little nicer but I can't really imagine how it plays. The original didn't put too much emphasis on aiming and I can't imagine how easy the game will be with 2 stick if they don't adjust it accordingly.

Damn, now that makes the High Definition feature on the original game look like a joke.

Why can't they just make a proper sequel instead?

I like this. I still insist that barring the nostalgia factor, Perfect Dark was a much better game than Golden Eye.

I cant wait. Looking at those screen shots, I just got really nostalgic for the Single Player. I wonder if it will have the multiplayer challenges. Those would be really fun to play online.

@VWGTI: everyone from rare's good ol' days works somewhere else now.

This is a day one for me, I loved this game and with updated controls and visuals you'd have to be insane not to want this game. When does it come out though? I haven't seen anything more than Q4 of this year.

@ VWGTI

I know Perfect Dark Zero was technically a prequel and not a sequel, but judging by their effort with that game I'm not so sure they have what it takes anymore to make a good FPS.

That actually looks pretty good. I was expecting them to update the textures and call it a day. Good work Rare, now I'm excited for it.

I have such fond memories of plowing through this game after finishing my homework in 6th grade. Seeing the new screenshots sent a huge wave of nostalgia-induced glee through me, and I really, really can't wait to play through the game all over again. I'm just glad I won't have to buy an Expansion Pak this time.

Funny how the only good product to come out of Rare in 6 years is an HD upscaled remake of one of their 64 efforts ported by another company.

I just hope they don't ask for an arm and a leg for it. Price aside, the updated graphics actually look pretty nice (You know, for an HD remake).

Cant wait. the only thing better than a laptop which is also a gun, which can also be deployed as a turret, is a Xray scoped sniper rifle that auto locks onto targets.

They updated an N64 game to look equal to an Xbox game. Pretty impressive.

I don't see why people are having misgivings about the dual stick controls. You can pop PD64 in an actual N64 right now, and it supports dual sticks. It always has. Same thing with Goldeneye, in fact.

You know its impossible to have a DK64 remake unless its on the Wii due to the fact Nintendo owns Donkey Kong.

Day one. I spent way too long on the offline multiplayer of this, and online multiplayer makes me want this so bad.

The single-player portion will be awesome up until you meet Elvis the alien.

After that, it is all downhill.

This game has fantastic co-op including the amusing counter-op - if the game doesn't lag it's an easy purchase.

Man, seeing what happened to Rare is awful. I loved Perfect Dark and can't wait to play it again in High definition(as much as I worry that the less aiming-centric gameplay could offer to be a bumpy port ride), but they used to make new, wonderful, ground-breaking titles. Nuts & Bolts was surprisingly okay, but whenever I stopped to think it was a Rare game I'd realize just how far they've sunk.

There's a part of me that's kinda glad they didn't return to Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, Battletoads, Blast Corps or Conker. Keep churning out remakes that I'll probably be kept interested and glad the series have died with dignity. =/

This game was better than Goldeneye, comfortably better than Goldeneye, unless you're enamored with James Bond's homoerotic universe.

Is it just me or do comments not have an edit button? Anyway..

"My God. Buff that framerate up to a solid 60 at all times and I will be there the first second it's released."

"As long as it doesn't lag in multiplayer like the original, count me in."

"if the game doesn't lag it's an easy purchase."

1080p @ 60 frames per second has already been confirmed a while ago. It's going to be awesome!

Screens look great and I like this better than Goldeneye when it came out. Laptop gun, Bots with different a.i. types and you could give them orders to defend you, the flag,or ur teammates. I just want to know what there planning with multiplayer. So far I've read there will be online coop. But nothing in the way of deathmatch and everything else.

Since I was too young to play an M rated game when Perfect Dark came out it doesn't have the nostalgia factor for me that Goldeneye does, because of that I'll probably pass on it.

Now if they released Jet Force Gemini with Live multiplayer I'd buy that in a second. Of course I'd buy DK64 too but we all know Nintendo won't let that happen.

We won't see a decent sequel because when Perfect Dark was released, all the talent left Rare to form Free Radical, who made the Timesplitters trilogy, Second Sight, and Haze.
