This is what Metro 2033's special edition looks like photo

Special editions for brand new videogames without a proven pedigree. I've ranted on the arrogance of such a thing before, but nevertheless, it's getting more and more common so we'll have to deal with it. Still, the Metro 2033 special edition isn't overly ridiculous, so at least there's that going for it.

UK retailer GAME has revealed the special edition in all its glory, detailing the in-game special shotgun, the fancy embossed box, and the artwork postcard set commissioned by novelist and Metro 2033 creator Dmitry Glukhovski. A pretty neat little package if you're convinced that this game is going to be worth the cash.

We preview the game a few weeks ago and voiced a number of concerns with it. The graphical issues and the unbalanced gameplay leave us with a sour taste, but one can hope that developer 4A has listened to criticism and made the game a little more sensible. If you're going to make a special edition, you better damn well make a game good enough to justify it.

At first I thought that the special edition came with a real life model of that shotgun. Kind of deceptive to put that next to the game disc and game art.

What Guncannon said. My violence boner was off the chart until I read the second paragraph again :(

I'm still holding out hope for this game. If they fix all the issues you note in your preview, it could be fantastic.

I'll be renting it at the very least either way. I'm a sucker for the apocalypse.

I wanna see the day an arms dealer throws in a game into the deal.
Pfft. They're such selfish jerks sometimes.

Possibly one of the worst special editions I've ever seen. I'm not paying extra for a couple of worthless postcards.

I also hoped it was an actual model shotgun. Now that would have completely changed my opinion.

Just another average FPS I reckon. Having watched the trailer, I can say I'm not impressed at all. It feels like a generic cash in.

Only a matter of time before all of these "Special Ultimate Super Awesome Definitive HD Editions" become the standard ed. By the next console cycle, every game will come with some kind of incentive toy gun/cloak/stickers/live puppy, and you will have to pay over $100.

On the topic of Special Editions, I think the GOW 3 Ultimate Edition looks pretty cool. For a cool Benjamin, you get the game, some tunes, a full documentary, artwork and a nifty box to stash your weed.

For a second there I thought the shotgun was a physical bonus.

I'll stick to the normal edition of the game.

I remember postcards. Back when people mailed things. Oh the nostalgia.

Postcards are the vinyl LPs of the mail carrying world. Only not cool.

said it before, will say it again- dont want a special edition, dont buy it. bitching about it makes NO difference whatsoever.

I think it looks cool, and I love my special editions, even of non established games- mass effect , dragon age and dante's inferno all had pretty sweet special editions for unproven games.

Well, since 2K just raised the price of the game in Australian Steam stores to a whopping 80 USD, while Americans pay half of that - this game can suck a big one. I just can't bring myself to pay over 90 dollars for games anymore, especially for online copies.

Glad I got Borderlands for 44 USD before 2K started with the price fixing crap.

Damnit! Only an in game weapon. From the picture I thought we were getting a physical, replica weapon.
