Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will be arriving on the PlayStation Vita as one of the many launch games for Sony's new handheld. I went hands-on in a couple of matches and, shocker, UMvC3 is pretty identical to the console versions. The huge fighting roster will remain the same and there will be both local and online multiplayer.
So what's different? Well the obvious addition is in touch screen controls. The touch screen stuff wasn't available in the demo I went hands-on with, but basically you'll just touch your character a series of times to get him to perform a variety of attacks. You'll also touch the X Factor or Hyper Meter bars in order to activate them during battle.
You'll have the option of playing UMvC3 with either touch, button input or a combination of the two. It's up to you and you won't have to worry about balance issues as Capcom will have separate matchmaking lobbies setup so players don't have to deal with touch screen players if they don't want to.
The last thing you should know is that there's going to be some additional gameplay modes added in just for the PlayStation Vita version. What are the modes? Capcom wasn't ready to spill the beans just quite yet. Enjoy the Vita screens in the gallery and see some Vita gameplay at the end of trailer above.
looks sweet for a handheld fighter but I already got the console version so this does nothing for me; but I assume a lot of people knew Capcom would pull a stunt like this and waited for a better version of this game to come out. 2 new versions coming out so far.
@timtheterrible @Epic-Kx must've missed the announcement then. Saw the leak, just didn't know Capcom officialy announced all 12.
good to see him on the cast though! Looking forward to the game.
Got my hands on Vita and 3DS today for the first time and was not impressed with Vita at all. This is definitely not my type of handheld, but I already knew that somehow. 3DS on the other hand blew me away with new Mario, Luigi's Mansion was a lot of fun to play too. All Nintendo games had a great level of polish and very smart design, as always, I'm very impressed and I know what hand held I'm getting. Too bad Nintendo's booth was empty with people lining up to see new Tomb Raider and Need for Speed The Run. Fucking Need for Speed, dude. Harsh reality.
Funny thing is, when I came to Sony's booth, there were like 8 people standing in the line waiting to get their hands on Vita, while there were 15 free Vita's but no one could pass because you had to fill up a huge fucking registration list on the iPad first. So I walked to some Sony guy and told him that it would be wise to just let people play first, because all of the Vitas are unoccupied and they're just creating an illusion of the huge line and it's bullshit. They told me that it's the rules of the company, so I told them to fuck off and walked in.
They had some kinda Resistance demo on Vita, it was blurry and felt like I'm playing a low resolution FPS game on a broken PS3 controller. It was not good, to me at least.
I also met a guy from Gearbox and talked to him about Anthony Birch a bit, which was weird, since I hadn't practiced English in quite some time and was very high. It all happened at Russian expo, so it's even more weird.
And I know it's all completely off topic, just felt like expressing my thoughts about my Vita hands on experience.
I was a little pissed about this game coming out in lieu of DLC (don't fucking tell me it's cheaper than the DLC would've been either, ffs, that's not the point) and I wasn't going to buy it... but I guess I could justify buying it for the Vita once I get around to getting one.
I don't have any problems with fighting games on handhelds, i play Blazblue on psp almost every day with a friend and it's very good (besides, Vita's Dpad looks better than psp's)
"Why would you want a fighting game on a handheld?"
Umm?.. why wouldn't you? I mean, I guess you're arguing that you wouldn't want to play a fight game if it has slightly less comfortable controls handheld than on a console. However, is there really a genre this isn't true for? RPG's I guess? I don't know. It just seems like if you want to game on the go you really have to be willing to play handheld games in different genres. I just really don't see what you're saying here.
