Red Faction: Armageddon is skipping versus multiplayer this time around and going with co-op instead. The horde-like mode called Infestation will see up to four players fighting wave after wave of progressively harder aliens until everyone dies or they pass the 30th wave.
There are three different game types; one that sees you killing everything, another that sees you defending bases while killing everything and then a dark mode where there is no light source except for each player's flashlight. Weapons are unlocked as you progress through the waves and all the upgrades you earned in single-player are available in the co-op experience.
If you're a fan of the horde mode in games like Gears of War and Halo, then you'll enjoy Infestation. The only downside to the mode is that there's no scoring or rating system, so you can't really get that competitive in the experience. It's a fun diversion but I don't think it's enough to satisfy the competitive players out there, especially with the loss of versus.
Volition wanted to focus on the story the most this time around and they felt that this co-op mode would be the best complement to single-player. As Roje Smith, Associate Producer on Armageddon, told me though, Volition will factor in a proper versus multiplayer if there's enough fan feedback in the next game. That is if another Red Faction game is made, of course
Um...when did Red Faction turn into Mass Effect meets Doom 3? This doesn't look promising, but that's just because it looks way different from RF: Guerilla, which was an awesome game if you ask me.
That sucks, the multiplayer in RFG was easily my favorite part of the game.
I'm utterly sick of this co-op craze. I don't like being forced to miss out on part of my game just because I don't have friends. Hopefully the single player is amazing this time, RFG was fun but the single player definitely started to drag. The destruction based multiplayer was what kept me playing.
Not to mention horde modes bore the crap out of me. It's funny how much we bitch about games being repetitive only to glorify the most repetitive mode of all.
OK, so the good point is:
It's really nice to see, that all upcoming Games get coop-modes. This is really great. 1-2 year ago, they just developed competition modes or something else.
The bad thing: why the fckn hell, they just develope this crap-kind of "survival" modes?! Instead of coop-Story modes or something like that.
Finally! A cooperative wave based multiplayer that does away with the scoring- scores in co-op often turn into people dropping the team gameplay and score-whoring for themselves...I'm glad to see a developer realized this and addressed it..we will see how long it lasts before scoring is patched in though, I'm hoping nevah!
I really dug RFG. Im looking forward to RFA but I'm worried that the change from open world to more linear will feel like I'm bring funneled down corridors. I really, really hope it isn't that linear; games like that get boring quick. The survival mode is interesting. Dead Space 2 should've had one.

Survival Modes are awesome. I just wish that some company would really take it to the next level and start adding more customizations, stage interaction and objectives to survival.
Call of Duty zombie mode has a lot of progressive leveling (purchase new weapons, unlock new territories, activate equipment), but for some reason the combat falls completely flat for me! There is no joy in killing, everyone usually dies quickly, and the waves get ridiculous really quickly.
I'd like to see gears of war style killing and call of duty style progression. Oh, and throw in some awesome boss fights.
Why is this game so dumb? Why would you create the coolest building destruction technology in the history of forever and then go and make a stupid manish-alien shoot as a sequel? I hate Volition so much.
wow so lets see just about EVERY freaking online game has both co-op AND competitive modes ... yet this one decided to completely ditch the core competitive multiplayer and give ONLY THIS INSTEAD
did whoever make Bulletstorm sneak into the Red Faction offices and give them this GREAT FUCKING IDEA cuz this is just fucking stupid
