In 2003, Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner had a sit-down meeting with Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney executives. The goal, to sell them on the idea of a Prince of Persia film.
Mechner explains it took him a week to cut up the above pitch trailer in Final Cut Pro, using existing footage from the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time game. He says that designing the trailer was a challenge, as many of the key scenes, locations, and characters from the film simply weren't in the game.
"So rather than attempt to explicitly tell the story of the movie in the trailer," he writes, "I set out to convey the kind of movie it would be."
What you won't see in the trailer -- time freezing, sand monsters, and the game's eerie vision sequences. They're apparently not in the movie, instead replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal's abs and five o'clock shadow.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (the movie, sort of based on the game) is scheduled for a 2010 release. And if this pitch trailer sold me on anything, it's that I need to play Sands of Time again. Damn that game was good.
Wait, Sands of Time movie without time travel and sand monsters? Why not just take out the sands altogether? I'm just expecting a borked up cheesy action flick with a perfect romance in the end now. FUCK.
Sands of Time was one of the best games of the last generation. Right up there with RE4 and God of War 2. You are missing out on a lot for not playing it.
I didn't mind the new one, but it certainly wasn't as jaw-dropping as SofT.
I don't remember the game sounding so muffled. Guess Mechner didn't record the in-game sounds very well. Awesome game though, I'm interested to see how the movie turns out. Did Disney ever change the shitty font on the movie posters?
It's among my favorite games of all time, and I must say -- when the music kicks in at 1:40, I was blown away. I don't know if that piece was composed by Stuart Chatwood (or, in fact, if it's from Sands Of Time and not any of the other games), but it's beautiful.
Only if you like boring repetitive games that basically play themselves for you and have no challenge whatsoever. Oh, and they sell the ending to you through DLC as well. How nice it was of Ubi to do that.

Am I missing out?
I really miss that game
still better than Uncharted in my opinion
If you haven't played it yet, go pick the PC version up in a bargain bin for $5.
Yep, you are. On a lot.
If you're talking about Sands of Time or The Two Thrones; yes.
The new PoP? Not really. Just watch a few videos on youtube, oogle at the artwork, then call it a day.
The new one is crap.
I didn't mind the new one, but it certainly wasn't as jaw-dropping as SofT.
But I agree, this pitch trailer really just made me want to play the game again.
The new Prince of Persia was terrible.

It's called Tower of Dawn, from the SoT ost. Stuart Chatwood composed it. Awesome music, awesome game.
