AnandTech got their hands on an Unreal Engine 3 tech demo that works on iPod Touches and iPhones. Holy crap! The playable demo has players moving and looking by using virtual thumbsticks on the screen and tapping the screen to shoot. Epic is working on multiple control schemes including the use of the tilt function.
The simple game of Unreal uses OpenGL ES 2.0 so it can only work with the latest iPhones and Touches. Epic doesn't have any plans to jump into the iPhone game market as of now, but they are planning on at least licensing the engine.
If this takes off, then this is going to be a huge game changer for the handheld market.

He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

That looks pleasantly smooth, with some serious potential. To be honest though, I'm personally as happy with the original Doom engine running my mobile shooters.
Touch is nice when there's also D-pads and buttons for the games that need them. Touch alone works great for some games, but certainly not all of them. This would only be a game-changer for Apple when they take that element seriously.
All the success in the world hasn't changed much for Macs and gaming, that's for sure.
Oooooh, Unreal engine for the Iphone toting sheeple.
Great.
I hate the Iphone, it's something about cramming a poorly functioning phone into an MP3 player riddled with DRM that just doesn't float my boat.
Sure i can't run the Unreal Engine on my Iphone-killing N97 but it sure does everything else you'd expect from a phone a lot better than an Iphone.
Sure, it's pretty, sure it's got lots of apps, but does it have a 5mp camera with a flash, DVD quality video capture, torrent downloading capabilities, full qwerty keyboard, FM transmitter, excellent battery life, most importantly, can you get apps from ANYONE on the internet? Or do you need to go through Apple for each and every one? Can it share music with any PC, console, or other USB device?
Nope.
Does EVERYONE who does or doesn't understand what it can do have one and treat it like it's their fucking child?
Sorry Apple, I still hate the iPhone and wouldn't ever use one. I've got to admit that this does look cool, but I'm eager in anticipation as to what second platform this is coming out for.
Plus this will only work on people who shelled out on an upgrade to the 3GS too. My N95 is just as good as when I got it, and I will thoroughly enjoy Quake 3, thanks.
Nokia N97 (or all Symbian S60 Nokia phones in the N series) are about cramming as much half working feature's in one device with a 10 year old OS and sell it on specs so fanbois can talk about their torrent download application on their phone. "And most importantely, can you get apps from ANYONE on the internet?" Yes, and you mean those other 2 applications that didn't make the Ovi store?
@Jealousychocolate - I love that you exist. Every once in a while when I think I need to take a bite of a huge steaming troll dump, there you are, closed minded and grunting, ready to squeeze out a smelly, useless dollop of "knowledge" for the Internet. You wouldn't make me laugh nearly as hard if you grew half a brain; stay stupid.
@sexulchocolate
People just aren't educated as they used to be. Nowadays, a dumbass like you will start posting shit on a blog. If you weren't so fucking dumb, jailbreak your damn iphone!
I think that does look nice. Although, I can't really tell since the fingers/thumbs keeps getting in the way. (get it?(it sucks for gaming because your fingers have to touch and get in the way of the viewing area!)) Don't call me a hater. I have an ipod touch so I've tried playing games on it.
Touche Mr Dixon, the games are awesome, and this is a gaming site.
I was suprised and impressed by Iphone games I've seen, however games are a perhipheral phone feature. Not a scratch on the PSP, which is always in my pocket.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Just call me "Gramps."

...okay. I have no boner for Apple products. I do however love my phone.
Great.

Nuff said.
Need some love for the Droid, too.

Is there a slight chance people don't give a fuck about all that?

....and iPhone was introduced by Belzebub to impress his dad

As a gaming platform, the iPhone is pretty fucking impressive, much more so than your N97. And since this is a gaming site...
