Third Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack due in August photo

Activision and Treyarch have announced today that a third Call of Duty: World at War map pack, “Locked and Loaded,” is due for release in August.

“Locked and Loaded” will feature three new multiplayer maps -- “Battery,” “Revolution,” and “Breach” -- along with one new Zombie Mode map, “Der Riese.” As expected, these will be available for download on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; no word on pricing.

It’s a bit surprising to see content for World at War still continues to get released, especially as we get closer to the release of Modern Warfare 2. Still, World at War is still a pretty popular online multiplayer game, and I suppose it doesn’t hurt to keep the Call of Duty brand fresh in everyone’s mind going in the holiday.

Do you guys think that World at War will continue to be relevant once Modern Warfare 2 hits shelves? Or will gamers only be playing these new maps for a few months before moving on?

Hell yea, the BIGGEST selling point of WaW is zombie mode. Treyarch knows a gold mine when it sees one. I wouldn't be surprised if World at War outsells Call of Duty 4. However, if Call of Duty 6 has zombie mode...

Very surprising - I might get it. But sadly I will most likely never play once MW2 is released.

Treyarch DLC has been top notch so far and they deserve some recognition.

@RedWinterWolf:
Yes, it's about the cold war. Supposedly they have removed all shooting mechanics, and all you do is sit around mumbling about nuclear war, occasionally yelling at some cubans. The game ends with you breaking down a wall with a hammer.

they had better support modern warfare 2 better than the first one -- i'm still a little confused as to why they only released a single map-pack after its massive success.

@bodybreak. Different companies dude, different companies... :]

It's nice to see Treyarch still supporting COD:WaW though :] I'll pick it up.

yeah, i'm aware of the infinity ward and treyarch leap-frog mechanism for COD. i just hope that infinity ward will take a page from treyarch's book and support MW2 a little better than they did for the first one after launch.

Treyarch is too kind to us.

I think by now I've played World at War more then 4. And I have no intentions of picking up MW2 until there is a price drop unless I get pressured into it, so WaW still has plenty of life in it for me. Especially since I rarely bother with 4 anymore.

Its weird. IW make a better CoD experience than Treyarch and add those all important new features that refreshed the series. but IW hardly ever supported MW1 post release it got 1 map pack of new maps and a second in the form of some updated cod2 maps. Yet Treyarch release so much dlc for thier iterations.

I'ld like to see a full clean break in CoD. And see CoD:MW3 in like 4 years time. But, with IW making the single player and Trey arch making about 30 multiplayer maps. :D best online shooter ever if that happened.

Or a map algorthym which randomly generates parts of the map. mild loading time delay but it would make every replay of a map fresh! til everyones played the 500 iteration of every individual map out there. so a technical potential of 15000 maps :)

I think Modern Warfare and World at War cater to slightly different crowds, they are both very popular online despite Modern Warfare being somewhat older. Treyarch are smart to continue updating World at War as it will likely enjoy something like the continued popularity of Modern Warfare, with MW2 becoming the dominant CoD title and MW1 usage dropping off somewhat.

If they had a pack that was just the new zombie maps, I would buy that.

Hope they'll still doing things like that, because releasing new content for the game is the only good thing Treyarch has done for us

@ hammersmith

I think they would do this about the time MW2 comes out.
(( Perfect Timing about Oct. 13th. & then a sale on Xmas. ))

Zombie Map Pack...
The Zombie maps are the only thing I play.

I cant wait to not buy this and trade in WaW towards MW2. If the whole MP was Co-Op zombies maybe, but Im so done with this game and it's awful hardcore balance issues. Thats only my opinion, but compared to 4, WaW was not quite there.

I'll use my moon bucks on 'Splosion Man instead and keep using WaW as a coaster.

I love Waw, but I'd rather see some extra maps for Battlefield 1943 over these. CoD is just a little bland when you have the option to dive-bomb a tank in Battlefield!

more map pack this one should at least be worth especially the zombie if we buy it treyarch is really continuing waw almost a year now with the map packs and gaining more players everyday the players might lower down when mw2 comes out who knows mw2 might have a bonus minigame like nazi zombies or stuff

Buy the maps to support Treyarch for doing such a good job with this game.
