Hey, I hear you're pretty good at killing zombies in Left 4 Dead. Getting on the rescue chopper? Too easy. And that boat? That Tank may as well take his lunch break, because he's wasting his time, right?
Well, the "Realism" mode -- a game modifier
spotted by 1UP during a recent
Left 4 Dead 2 demo -- is about to test your skills. While Valve isn't ready to reveal the mode in full just yet (it was apparently a modifier it forgot to hide for the press demos), marketing director Doug Lombardi dropped a few hints on the mode apparently designed with the "hardcore" player in mind.
"Take Portal for example," he says. "We had our best internal players who could blow through that game in about 30 minutes, but within weeks of launching it we had people on YouTube beating [the testers'] times by 10 minutes of more. Realism is for those players."
How exactly it will affect game play is unknown. One could guess that we're talking less health, or maybe headshot-only zombie kills. What would you like to see applied to Left 4 Dead 2's "Realism" mode?

Smoker gives you 3 seconds to be rescued, being melee'd and trapped = instadeath
Hunter kills you in 2 seconds
Boomer bile does not decay, or decays really slowly.
Charger's chokeslam is an instant kill.
Healthpacks only do 50 health boost.
Those are my thoughts, anyway. I haven't played as the other infected to know how balanced they are and how I would make them harder. Especially the Spitter.
I think that if is supposed to be an is.
Oh god, L4D, 255 players, last man standing from the zombie invasion, where the defeated work against the remaining survivors. That would be the greatest game ever.

Pistols not infinite ammo.
Become infected when killed.

Aside from the flashlight->laser sight thing, that was the coolest mod I had ever seen for the game.
Until the Teletubbies.
There are a lot of mods already that do "realism", but they just make it more difficult rather than really changing the game. That said, I'm jaded because I tend to die faster. Also, wouldn't it be cool if there was an "unrealistic" mode? Sure, you can call the normal mode unrealistic, but I'm talking comedic stuff. Everyone uses explosives, Boomers exploding will take people out if too close (I mean vaporized), Hunters can jump extremely high (like Prototype high), Witches can plow through walls, etc. I'm running out of creativity.
expert mode is a breeze, but mostly because peopel spam their pistols, rapid fire, until some sort of horde or SI requires them to switch up to the big guns. The fact we still play expert mode by clearing every last zombie out of every area: implies something is wrong. yeah?
if i had to watch my pistol ammo, it'd be much more tense/difficult.

- While i'd also love headshots being required to kill, i believe they've said that the engine can't handle a hundred zombies crawling around without limbs. (the first thing i'd do is run off shooting the legs out of every zombie, just to see how my teammates react to rooms full of crawling death. ... sigh. dream. :)

Also, no glowing outlines to direct you towards allies and weapons.
You turn into a zombie after being killed by the infected.
Oh shi...
-Pistols have limited ammo.
-You can only get incapacitated once, and health packs heal even less when this happens.
-Tier 2 weapons are even fewer and farther between, making you very thankful when you get them.
-Only one bottle of Pills spawns per level (Not entire campaign, but every round).
-Molotovs and Pipe Bombs only spawn at the finale of each campaign.
These are a few changes I think would make the game a shitload more challenging, but still keep it fun without it being overly frustrating.
-Gun jams frequently
-limited pistol ammo
-take longer to heal w/ health packs
-pills make you disoriented for a few minutes
-having a stamina level that isnt health (you slow down from running after a while)
-rescue takes more than 10 minutes
-after incapacitation, you "bleed out" and loose health even if health pack/pills are used
-Friendly fire ACTUALLY EFFECTS THE PLAYERS!
