We already know that that Green Day: Rock Band is coming thanks to last night’s VGA announcement. We know it will have music from Green Day and be a Rock Band game, for sure. But what about the details and most importantly will we be able to export the songs? The details are here now thanks to a press release and, yes, song exportation is a thing you can do.
It seems the game is going to function much like The Beatles: Rock Band, and take players through the career of the band with select famous venues and art that is selective to the band itself. Harmonix is touting the whole “extension and expression” of a band’s work once again, and they did such a great job doing it The Beatles: Rock Band doesn’t seem like bad news to me. The question is if Green Day warrants it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Just treat it like DLC or the AC/DC Live track pack (which converted to DLC) and you can't get too angry at it.
The Who, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, U2, Pearl Jam, and even Springsteen are more deserving of games.
And I'm fine with that; but seriously, Green Day? Pass.
Also, Rock Band is dead to me.
I think The Who: Rock Band would be extremely fun to play. Even if "The Who" name might not be too popular nowadays, all the instruments would be a challenge: drums (!!), bass, guitar (!) & vocal. Does Rock Band have a synthetizer?
Moon's drums would be fucking sick in Rock Band.
If they even had some sort of speaker in them that gave off an explosion after select songs, I'd be in musical heaven.
You guys know there's already like, if I remember correctly, 15 tracks by The Who available in Rock Band, correct? All of which are AMAZING to play on the drums? Though I certainly wouldn't mind more from them. The rest of the Live at Leeds stuff would be awesome.
As for this, I'm gonna go on record as saying older Green Day is...decent at best...not the worst band out there, but definitely not deserving of their own game, in my eyes. Though I don't doubt Harmonix having a specific reason for picking them. I have a feeling that this could turn out to be a lot better then I expect it will, but as for now I'm keeping my expectations relatively low, as I kinda stopped enjoying their watered-down brand of pop-punk long ago. Here's to hoping for something surprising/redeeming though, I guess.
Also, for the love of God Harmonix, if I see the entirety of American Idiot on the game while you ignore all but the 'hits' on Dookie/Nimrod, then I just might cry genuine tears.
I want a full game, with new custom Rock Opera play tweaks, and playable Who band members/sets/stadiums, similar to RB: The Beatles.
If there were three bands that deserve it, it would be The Beatles, The Who, and The Stones.
I'll give ya that one, The Who DEFINITELY deserves their own game even if they already have so much DLC. Especially considering that we already have so much of their songs but they have so much more awesome music left. And the things that could be done, like being able to play through the Leeds set in it's loud, raw, uncut glory, or seeing their cherished Rock Opera brought to interactive life similar to the soundscapes seen in The Beatles, or even the simple act of seeing the band age and progress through the years (I hope that if this game would ever happen, they don't simply cut it off after Keith Moon dies. The drums may never have that same iconic energy, but there were still some great tracks to come out of the post-Moon era). I honestly think it could happen someday.
Rock Band: Pink Floyd. Do it.
this is rediculous. Harmonix has jumped the shark, Rock Band is dead to me
I wonder if there'll be a Woodstock mud-flinging mini-game...
Where's my Bad Brains Rock Band???
Oh yea....they'd never sell out like that
If it sucks, I just won't buy and consider it a "move along folks there is nothing to see here" game.
Fucking Rock Band 3 better be innovative as shit or I'll finally be done and I've spent well over $300 on dlc.
I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see a Rock Band: Motown game! Just think about it: The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, etc.; it makes my head explode!!
Or Rock Band Rolling Stones. Rolling Stones would even make sense, as they did the Beatles, why not do another downright fantastic band of the past?
Grr...freaking Green Day.
Fuck Green Day
Not that I'm super crazy about Green Day, but I *would* love to play Dookie. Their newer stuff can go ... blow a boat. Or something.
What I'd really really really love to see is Bad Religion Rock Band.
Perhaps not the series, per se, but what the franchise stands for is dead.
The developer gave these huge speeches on how much they respect the music industry, and the history's medium, touting that fact every step of the way during the marketing of Beatles: Rock Band.
But come to find out, money talks, and they actually just don't give a shit.
Though I'll freely wish death and plague upon bands like Green Day, Blink-182, 3 Doors Down and a dozen other mainstream rock sensations whose careers are comprised of 0.1% music/99.9% commercial-whoring, I'll always be more disappointed in the tasteless shit-for-brains populace who keeps them at the top with their blindly flying dollars and their complete lack of cultural standards/expectations.
I'm pretty bad with music games like rock band and guitar hero. Haven't purchased any of them since the first guitar hero, but I would camp a Pink Floyd rock band release out! (although I wouldn't need too)
