Thief 4 announced, real name is Thi4f photo

You can take it to the bank -- Eidos is working on Thief 4. Earlier this morning, a tweet from the official Eidos-Montreal Twitter account confirmed the existence of the title and also pointed its readers to the game’s official Web site, which has nothing more than a logo and a link to a discussion forum.

Information is limited, however, there is one thing we do know: the game is officially named Thi4f. We are now at the point of no return with the l33t stuff, folks.

So, we have a new Thief sequel. What do you want from it? As long as I can still crack skulls with a tiny club, I’m good to go. Well, that and the dismissal of the name "Thi4f," but that's a discussion I'll leave to you guys.

[Thanks, jetsetlemming!]

Well here we go: the possible start of EA ruining one of my favorite childhood franchises, starting with an XTREME moniker.

I agree with Brad, as long as I can bash skulls with my blackjack I should be "ok". I want the return of water arrows, and a real detection/sound system, like Thief 2 did perfectly.

The Eidos forums are saying the logo's just an (amusingly retarded) PR thing and probably temporary.

Also Magnalon this is Eidos, not EA.

I get that it's the fourth game and all, but wouldn't "Thi3f" be the proper l33t conversion?

I'm laughing already, picturing confused parents asking for "THI FOUR F" at GameStop.

Man i hate game names with numbers in them, the only exception is Left 4 Dead because it's such an awesome game.

@Jetset
Why did I look at Eidos-Montreal and think that EA had taken over my beloved series? Perhaps it's the lingering tired-ness, haha. Thanks for the callout! :-D

Well that's goofy. Hope the game is good, and better than Thief 3. Sorry, better than Thi3f, I should say.

That is so goofy. I don't get why they just go the "reboot" way and just title it after the original source. Sorta like what "Star Trek" or "Prince of Persia" did.

Why Garrett is a bad ass (in case you didn't know)

I thought Thief 3: Deadly Shadows had the perfect full circle ending to the story of Garrett's character, but I guess not. I wonder where they'll take it next? They can't possibly make another game without him. That would be awful. I could see them pulling a 'switcheroo' ala Metal Gear Solid 2 though. That could work on some level, depending on the writing and whether or not they are able to hire Stephen Russell again for his voice talent.

"Stéphane D'Astous has told us that getting the same voice actors back for Thief 4 is something that Eidos-Montreal are taking "very seriously."

who ever thought of spelling it "THI4F" needs to be shot. That doesn't even work in 1337 speak, which NO ONE DOES ANYMORE.

maybe it was NOT meant to be leet speak? personally i think it looks fine. Not like it becomes unreadable or something...

Oh dear lord. Not again.

But yeah I think the thief games were fun but stealth games in general need to change for this generation, Velvet Assassin proves that.

Quick side note, wasn't there some sort of early promo art leaked awhile back that featured a modern day Garret wearing a hoodie? Surely they're still not considering that, are they? Because if so, boo. Boo on that, sir.

Thi4f -> Thief 4 please.

And if they put a level in as good as the Shalebridge Cradle then I'm sold. Whatever flaws Deadly Shadows had were overridden by that place.

Dubya Tee Eff. First, the title doesn't work in l33t (Theaf?), the game's theme doesn't work in l33t, and third WHAT THE F4CK IS WITH THE L33T?

No. No. Just no.

Calling Thief 4 "Thi4f" is almost as cool as calling Driver 3 "Driv3r" which was almost as cool as ass-to-mouth herpes.

I think breaking into the haunted Cathedral in the first thief game is one of my scariest video game experiences. Ever. The never-ending hum/drone as the sound design in that level has yet to be topped for atmosphere.

Wow. Thinking about Thief has made me remember the 'revolutionary Dark engine(tm)' which was basically shit loads of black used in the textures. Awesome.

Getting rid of the horribly implemented option to play in 3rd person would be nice but what would be nicer is that the modern day rumour is a load of crap. I don't particularly want to play as a hooded chav nicking DVD players from housing estates...

The coal-powered robots were my favorite thing in thief 2. They managed to be far creepier and dangerous than the zombies and burricks from Thief 1, while also being really cool and having a thematically brilliant way of defeating them. The Bank mission in Thief 2 is probably my favorite single level out of the entire series, and that has far more mechanical defenses than guards.

Guys, this is Eidos, which means it's actually Square Enix, right?

I'm pretty sure Square Enix is required to add forty belts and twenty zippers to every character model now. You know what that means?

Unlimited inventory! :P

Thiaf is an Old Frisian word meaning thief. This just means that the game takes place in West Germany between the 8th and 16th centuries.
