Quantcast

I realize that it is the modus operandi of Koei to take a series and run with it for as long as humanly possible, but the fact that we're still getting Nobunaga's Ambition games after twenty years still blows my mind. Then again, I somehow manage to be fascinated with the WWII era and there are tons of games about that, so I suppose I can relate.

The trailer doesn't give us a whole lot to go on, as it lacks gameplay footage (but what's with that weird bit of computer simulation stuff at the beginning?). If I had to guess, I'd suspect that you're either going to attempt to unify sixteenth-century Japan through strategic warfare or open an ice cream shop with dreams of one day serving the Emperor himself. I'm really hoping for the latter.

Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle releases on January 27th on the PlayStation 2. Does anybody play these games anymore? Are they still fun?

Koei makes so many games about a) The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and b) feudal Japan that I just can't keep track of which one is which anymore, except that Dynasty Warriors is the one where you hit one button over and over again to win.

Anyone else amazed by how long Koei has stuck with their title card?

Wow, that blows my mind. I remember playing the original and not really knowing what the hell I was doing at any point. Probably because I was too young...that and being impatient.

I remember browsing the NES games for rent at the local video store and wondering what this game was all about. For the longest time I thought it was "Nobubunga"s Ambition and how silly a name that was.

I played the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms for the NES (and all the rest subsequently). But it was funny, me and my brother were so young we couldn't even figure out how to start the game. It wasn't the 'start' button, you used the directional pad. My mom had to read that in the instruction booklet. You know a game's gonna be a doosy when you can't even get it started. Then when playing we judged how powerful a character was by how cool he looked, not by his stats, lol. Good times!

Might as well pick up a copy of the original before this comes out.
