That sounds very difficult, factoring in pokemon like Latios that randomly appear in locations and are ridiculously fucking difficult to find/capture.

If they expect to accomplish this, they'd better have a whole team of experts. It's just not possible for only one person. It took me all fucking summer to do this by myself.
Not only do you have to catch each species, but you have to evolve them all fully. For some (like Gorebyss and Huntail) you need special items to evolve that require play through half a game to obtain.
Then there's getting Ho-oh, which (unless using Japanese HG/SS cart) requires you to play all the way through Colosseum, catching and purifying every shadow Pokemon, and then playing through the 100-stage battle tower. This in itself is a feat.

Wow, that's more than one pocket monster every ten minutes. I'm skeptical that it can be done, but that would be a mightily impressive achievement.
I wonder if they'll also be making use of the Global Trade System in the DS version to accomplish this in part. I play Platinum on and off and just breed the fuck out of Eevees, it usually gets me most of what I want. and there are like eight evolutions for Eevee.
I'm kinda curious if they should go past the fourth generation of the series, though. The game does get more refined with every iteration, But I don't want to think about managing nearly 700 Pokemon.

Though, if I had to take a guess, I'd say they'll capture no more than 380.

Actually Mew IS obtainable legally, from My Pokemon Ranch on the Wii. Fill 999 out of 1000 box spaces, and the girl (can't remember her name) will give you a Mew for that last box spot.
I'll be extremely disappointed if they forget about this.

This might be possible, but only with at least 5-6 people playing on rotations between the 4 games. For the normal pokemon it would be hard, but doable, but for legendarys, it will be damn near impossible especially for the runners like legendary dogs, lake trio, and lati@s.

@TheDirtyHobo: The dogs are found in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness throughout the main course of the story. Otherwise you'd have to play through FireRed/LeafGreen 3 times to catch them all. The lake trio isn't so bad, since only one of them runs. But Lati@s... there was a trick I saw on Youtube to find them in 15 min or so, but that still means playing Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald at least twice all the way through.
Impossible, I say! Unless they've got several people working at it at once, and then will pool their resources together. I still think they'd be hard pressed to get the 150 standard Pokemon in that time.
@Dexter345: It's not that bad, since my gameplay time on Blue was about 37 hours, and I have all 150. I was like 12 back then, and I could probably do it in less than 20 hours if I really tried (and had nothing better to do). Still though, unless they've got more than one person playing, it's gonna be hard to catch all those pokemans.

I think they meant catching them all period and not all on one cartridge. Although, pokemon like gengar and machamp have to be traded to be obtained, but that isn't the issue.

How many people are doing this? Are they all going to divide up the labor and just complete the pokedex by trading, or is each person playing 3-4 games and catching all of them for himself?
If they don't trade, then they can't realistically go beyond some 300. There are a crapton of pokemen that you can get only through the older games.

All event-based Pokémon are pre-loaded into the game (as wild Pokémon, not already obtained).
No OUTSIDE trading probably means they can only trade between themselves. It makes sense since stuff like Rhyperior, Porygon2/Porygon-Z, Golem etc. are all trade-only.

One of them will have a seizure... guaranteed. So, at some point in the stream you will see the character all of a sudden moving in random directions due to the person tapping out.
In 72 hours it's just not possible. Not without cheats. Good luck to them but there's simply no way they're pulling it off.
Unless they have 200 people working on this at once, I don't see it at all. Also, I started getting excited, then I looked over to the recent related articles and I saw the creepy dude with the Pikachu ski mask and I shat brix.
Is anybody keeping up with this? It's funny as shit. They took over an hour trying to catch Mewtwo! What are they going to do when it comes time for Latias/Latios?
