These are the 12 songs by The Who coming to Rock Band in July photo

Some musicians snub their noses at Rock Band, shouting, "Play a real instrument," in the general direction of gamers. The Who's guitarist, Pete Townshend, is not one of them.

"I'm a fan of Rock Band," said Townshend. "I play the game with my son and girlfriend and love the way it brings different generations together through music. I like the idea that people of all ages will have fun playing our songs."

The songs he's referring to, of course, are the whopping 12 Who songs -- handpicked by Townshend and the band's lead singer, Roger Daltrey -- which will be available as downloadable content on July 15 (for Xbox 360, July 17 for PlayStation Network).

Here are the songs in the massive pack, all of which are master tracks or taken from live recordings:

  • “Amazing Journey”
  • “Baba O'Riley”
  • “Behind Blue Eyes”
  • “Eminence Front”
  • “Going Mobile”
  • “Leaving Here”
  • "My Generation” (Live at Leeds)
  • “Real Good Looking Boy”
  • “Sea & Sand”
  • “Summertime Blues” (Live at Leeds)
  • “Who Are You”
  • “Young Man Blues” (Live at Leeds)

Do want? The 12-song pack will run you $19.99 (1600 MS Points for Xbox 360), while songs can be purchased individually for $1.99 (160 MS Points for Xbox 360). The release of the songs will coincide with VH1's Rock Honors special for The Who, which airs on July 17.

Absolute Do Want. It may not be "Who's Next", but I think they did a pretty damn good job putting together a track pack.

The stuttering in My Generation is going to absolutely destroy all singers in its path.

Though I'm not that big a fan of The Who, I am most definitely getting "My Generation". Love that song.

I was really hoping to play "The Song is Over", "Getting in Tune", "Love Aint for Keeping" and "Bargain", but I think that this is not bad at all. Singing "Who Are You" will be awesome. And I'll still get "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Baba O'Riley"!

Some of these are great, but honestly a few don't belong near the title "Greatest Hits" they proclaimed.

Eh, I'm just bitter I'm not getting My Wife or Love Ain't For Keeping, or the rest of Who's Next for that matter.

Three of these songs aren't even by The Who - they're covers, The Who playing other artist's songs.
And two of them are from after Keith Moon, so the drums will be way less interesting.
I think it's a pretty bizarre list; if this were the third or fourth pack, I would not be surprised by the above titles, but for the first pack, you'd think they'd stick with songs from their prime.

Awesome! However, has anyone listened to the Live at Leeds version of "My Generation"? It's over 15 minutes long...that should prove interesting.

@ People complaining about song choices

It's not really their choice; some songs just don't have good masters any more, so they're not possible to put in without making them cover versions. I'm sure you'll survive.

And I have no Rock Band. But fear not. I shall not cry. Nor raise my eye. Afterall, it's only teenage wasteland.
