There will be no more Guitar Hero DLC photo

When Activision said that Guitar Hero was getting killed, it meant the whole damn deal. A few people wondered if we'd at least get new downloadable content, but the publisher has stated that after February, the well officially goes dry.

"We will release the previously announced DLC track and mix packs for February," revealed social media lord Dan Amrich, "but we will not be able to release new DLC packs."

Makes sense, really. If licensing tracks was Activision's biggest issue, then it sure as buggery won't be obtaining new ones. The dream is over, guys. Now it's up to Rock Band to give me my ELO spin-off.

I had some real good times with the first three Guitar Hero games, but after that it was just kind of...meh. So thank you Guitar Hero for the times I did enjoy you.

Now Rock Band, can you please give us some of those "exclusive" Guitar Hero stuff. I want some more Metallica as well as Dethklok, Van Halen, Aerosmith and Rocky Horror Picture Show stuff. PLEASE!?

thank god, now people can maybe go back to playing real guitars and form real bands. This game has always just made the music industry look like a joke.

@Johnny ha, Sorry bud but the music industry has been making itself look like a joke long before Guitar Hero/RockBand came around and with continue to do so well after the music game genre dies.

Just wait 5 years and it will back on the shelves.
Coincidentally in 5 years COD will be getting the sales GH5 and Shred got.

@Johnny I had no idea people stopped forming bands.

@Johnny I agree. Guitar Hero should have spent more time concentrating on what makes the music industry popular: combining auto-tune with Tron suits at the Super Bowl half time show.

They stopped making bands because of GH? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

@ Johnny. Yea, it was a video game that made the music industry look like a joke. Just like Madden did with the NFL.

Did Call of Duty stop people from entering the military? Did Madden stop people from joining the NFL? Of course not. So why would a game where you push buttons on squeaky Playskool guitars stop aspiring musicians from forming bands and writing music?

Well, adios. Can't say I'm really gonna miss you, Guitar Hero. For me, the series ended with Guitar Hero 3. I've already bid my farewells, now it's just official. So long.

What Activision should do is relinquish it's assets and DLC rights to Harmonix so we can keep everything in one game. Why keep Metallica exclusive if Activision isn't even supporting the brand?

That is some really bad news. Guitar hero 3 was a good game, but it could never beat gh wor. I actually got gh3 for 2.50 so I can't really complain.

The idea that Guitar Hero has been "killed" is something of a farce. This is the gaming industry -- nothing is permanently dead. While the game won't have a release in 2011 (or maybe even 2012), the franchise will eventually return and people will go absolutely bonkers over it.

What I found fascinating is that people have been saying for a couple of years now that GH needs to take a break, yet when it actually happens a whole hell of a lot of people freaked out.

@Johnny Luchador

The music industry made a joke of themselves a long time ago through the laughable actions of the RIAA (read: suing a 12-year-old girl).

@Johnny You know, just because people want to play a music game doesn't mean that have to learn real guitar. If there's anything Guitar Hero and Rock Band did is that they helped people get into music. The music industry today is a pure joke.

@Johnny.....dude i have played "real" guitar for years and still love this series. if anything i believe it turned more kids on to the real thing and will eventually result is some good things down the line. at the end of the day it is a "game" and i found them enjoyable for what they were and welcome the end of what i thought was a great series.
