Everyone, go buy this so we can a sequel stat.
I'll be here, not buying it.
also: tin pin slammer rules
1) If it doesn't sell, S-E will attribute to piracy and let the IP rot.
2) If it sells moderately, S-E will say there wasn't enough interest and they barely made back the money invested and let the IP rot.
3) If it sells well S-E will attribute it to it's social components and make a sequel that's even less TWEWY like and 90% more Farmville like and the IP's original concept will rot.
So no matter what fans are screwed.
They'll be less screwed if they don't buy the port though so we'll never know the horrors of the 3rd option
If we took a poll before the countdown started and asked everyone to name three projects they wanted SE to work on, I bet there would be exactly zero requests for a 'casual' one-screen version of TWEWY on the iOS for $20.
I have no interest in this port, but, I admit to seeing how they convert this to iOS format with characters on one screen. I feel like they would have to change significant portions of the game. We'll see, I guess. $19.99 seems excessive in any case.
WHY?
I said I'd still get this if it were a thing. I lied. It's not the fact that it's a port that gets me, it's the bloody $20 price tag. Once again, Square Enix, you have destroyed any interest in your own
product by somehow shooting yourself in the foot with..... THIS.

Not much Square Enix on Android so I might be waiting a while.
Lord knows I probably defend them more than anyone else.
But this seriously sucked, and made me hate square for a few days
I should also add that the iPhone version costs $17.99. Not a big difference, but should have been mentioned in the article.

That should piss off the fanboys even more. :-)
I agree. After this announcement, chances of a new game are probably screwed.
Clearly, formal training in these sorts of fields must be designed to actually extract common sense and basic foresight, and burn it.

"Φinal Fantasy Dimensions: thirty bucks for an iOS game?"
ΛΟΛΟΛΟΛ
I'll probably still buy it anyways, though. No one wants it, but I have to admit that it does look nice, at least. That and I played my copy of TWEWY so much that it doesn't work anymore, so I need a new one. xD
People saying that others should be this overpriced piece of shit to show support for the license is proof of this.
"Oh Squeenix. I remember you so fondly from my childhood, though then you were Squaresoft. How did you come to be so full of bullshit. Ah well."
They made Final Fantasy 7.
The game that they sold with CG commercials. The game that was the next step in their goal to make a game that was like a Hollywood movie. (No joke, that was their goal.) The game that then sold gangbusters, expanding their audience and cementing them in players' minds.
It might have taken a bit of time, but the rest follows from there. They thought they could expand into making real Hollywood movies, and nearly killed themselves in the process. Final Fantasy became even more about the graphics. Square also started to fall into the trap that Sega long ago fell into with Sonic, where nothing they could do would please everyone. When people heard FF12 was being made by an FFT guy, they hoped the game might actually have a...game. And then the other half of the FF audience openly revolted at the idea that they might have to do any work to get their FF story.
Square released the "eh" Final Fantasy XI in their attempt to jump into the MMO market. Not awful on its own, it would eventually spawn FF 14, outsourced to China and an utter joke at release. (Square couldn't even keep people playing while constantly tacking addition "free months" onto the service.)
And sometime around when it partnered with EA, Square apparently decided it wanted to be the EA of Japan. Though it hasn't managed that yet.
Why does it have to be $19.99? Because it's sold on the same platform as Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja? By that logic, an Xbox 360 should be the same price as a 3DS because they're sold in the same store.
And higher quality audio, I would hope. That alone should be pretty good reason to buy it.
