I'm a huge Japanese television drama fan. I'm one that watches 4 or 5 of these J-dramas at once. Now, somehow I've missed a show called Shi15ya, but it seems that I haven't missed much, as it plays out just like Square Enix's DS game The World Ends With You.
I've been around long enough to know that a lot of Japanese games and television shows (and movies and so on) share similar stories. Hell, the Japanese are masters at recycling. But according to the comparision at split-screen, the game and this TV Asahi show sound too similar.
This Shibuya is actually a virtual simulation (like, say, Shibuya Underground) created by some one (a Game Master, for instance) who watches over its “inhabitants” (or Players) and when they don’t function according to the rules, an enforcer is sent to “kill” (or Erase) them. Almost fittingly, this enforcer (called Peace here) only targets these 15 year olds.
The rest of the article has even more similarites laid out. I've played the game. Now I'm going to watch this show and see for myself. If I'm guessing right, the show will be equally as bad as the game was.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
lololololololollolololol xD
Then again, when anyone gives Persona 4 a 10/10, I take what they say with a grain of salt.
But srsly that game ruled, what is the matter with you?
And yes, it did seem like a gameshow.
I love TWEWY.
TWEWY is the second highest rated game released in 2008 for the DS (behind only Chrono Trigger which is hardly a DS game and did nothing to separate it from the original).
The only other DS game in 2008 that even comes close to the greatness of TWEWY is Professor Layton. Castlevania was pretty weak overall and the rest of the "Best of 2008 for the DS" list is practically laughable.
Seriously though, TWEWY is probably the most original RPG to come out in years. You don't have to like it, but you DO have to be mentally challenged to think it was so "bad."
Grow the fuck up, DinnertimeNinja.
And if originality comes from ADHD battle mechanics and unresponsive touch screen control, I'll stick with the conservative JRPGs.
I enjoyed The World Ends with You immensely, even if there was a big learning curve going into it. And I don't think you have to qualify it with a "but it was angsty" or "but the story sucked". I think it was an overall excellent game with interesting controls, a well-paced story, and beautiful graphics, not to mention good replay value.
I am, however, interested in seeing about this dorama stuff. I may have missed it, but did the soap opera come first or the game?

It's one of the very few (if not the only, as far as I can remember) RPGs that I managed to drop more than 100 hours in. I still turn it on once in a while to level up my badges. I'll get 100% someday!
You're being just as much of a fool as DinnertimeNinja. Disagreeing with someone acting like an idiot can make you just as big of an idiot. "All I did was bash a popular game. Why can't people just give me the attention I want without being mean?"
First off, I personally loved the game. Yeah, the combat system had a pretty steep learning curb (although it's much easier when you realize that all you really have to do is mash left or right while concentrating on the touch screen, only glancing up every now and then to make sure the enemy hasn't changed sides; audio cues are very helpful here), and yes, the plot was an angstfest (I didn't mind it, probably because I assumed that was the point), but the music was great and most of the flaws are really more of an 'acquired taste.'
That said, Dale's allowed to have his opinion and it's not really worth getting butthurt about.
The controls on that game were cool too; if confusing.
