The Witcher soon to be banging whores on Xbox 360 and PS3 photo

If you're not a PC gamer, then you'll probably have missed out on The Witcher, a Polish RPG powered by BioWare's Aurora engine and famous mostly for having prostitutes in it. The critical reception was more or less favorable, although a couple of reviews were pretty brutal.

Good or bad, the world at large will soon be able to sample the fruit of CD Projekt's labor when it is released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. Hooray for all!

I must admit I am curious about this game, but up until recently lacked a computer capable of running the thing. I do believe I shall be checking this saucy little number out when it hits the consoles, if only because I still remember the game's awful example of a pick up line: "I know a peach when I see one."

Damn you, Jim. You just reminded me of another game I have to get around to playing. I didn't have a proper PC when this came out and had forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me.

Games to play: Dead Space, Gears of War 2, Persona 4, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles and now The Witcher.

Also, this headline is offensive. Whores are made love to, not banged. You should be fired.

The game can be a little crass at times, but I found myself scores of hours in and loving it. It's rare to see a grim, low-magic fantasy setting in games, especially one of a distinctly European flavour. It really opens up in the 2nd chapter of the game, since that's where the plot really gets going. The prologue and chapter 1 are just the lead up to a huge chapter jam-packed with characters, quests and some choices with consequences. It's there that it cemented it's grip on me.

"The critical reception was more or less favorable, although reviews have been pretty mixed."

Isn't that either redundant or contradictory? "Critical reception" and "reviews" are usually the same thing, aren't they? I don't know. I just know that I know a peach when I see one.

I played The Witcher. I thought it was alright, but banging whores was the best part of the game for me!!!!!

AWESOME! The Witcher is probably one of the best RPG's to grace the PC in a LONG time. I'm glad they're making it for the consoles, more people need to play this game. Let's hope they're able to successfully port it and cater it to console-gamers.

I bought the enhanced edition off Steam a while back and enjoyed it. Still need to get around to beating it but I'd definitely recommend it.

It wasn't that good. As far as the over all game play it could have been fun. However I take issue with the guy wearing the same gear through the entire game. Despite getting better and better gear.

The sex sections are korny and you even feel kind of sorry for both parties involved.

The trailer says that they're revamping combat and making it more "dynamic." As long as it works well with a controller, I'd consider picking it up.

One of the best "90's style" RPGs in a while. I'm hoping they'll use the enhanced edition content, for all your console-loving sakes.

Also, will they include the Polish voice track?

CD Projekt is fast becoming one of my favorite devs, right up there with Bioware, Obsidian, and Valve.

Sweet mother of Jesus, this will only end in tears.

The Witcher was made with PC controls in mind. Even in the newly released enhanced version, there's still about 5 different menus you have to constantly use. This wouldn't be an issue if there weren't dozens and dozens of different keys mapped to specific actions. With enough patience, the depth of it all is really rewarding but this game would give me a splitting headache trying to control on a gamepad.

All things considered, it's actually a good RPG, but the Witcher on consoles is going to take some serious optimization (maybe a radial menu like most games have) or they're going to have to scrap some of the gameplay altogether and come up with something else.

Oh man, what if they decide ALCHEMY was the gameplay they wanted to scrap?!

I can recommend this title. I think it's biggest problems where on the technical side, which should be fixed with the console versions. You just have to hope they don't mess up the fighting system.

The Witcher Enchanced Edition was released a year after the original one, it adds a campaign and fixes lots of bugs... I played both and the enchanced edition is really a new experience.

A must play gentleman.... but lets see how it plays out on the console since it was a game made for the PC controls.

Anyway is great that this game is coming to a greater audience, I just hope they dont screw this one up or they wont be anymore witcher.

I was intrigued by the game when it first came out. But, like so many others, I didn't (and still don't) have a PC that can run the damn thing.

So, HOORAY for a console release! I was completely convinced that such a thing would never happen. This has seriously made my night.

@MrPeenie:
actually they did repair the title problems, as I said, the Enchanced Edition is WAY superior than the one from last year.

So I think that if they manage to adapt the controls they have a good title coming to the console.

If you are paying $499 for PC that can run The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, you're getting ripped off. For 500 big ones you can get a computer that can run crysis warhead.

I've had my eyes on The Witcher for some time, especially the enhanced version. But my PC is shit, so I've skipped it.

But if it's coming to the 360, then I might buy it. Hopefully they'll make the game work well on consoles.

It's about time. I couldn't help but think this game was perfectly suited for a console port. Which isn't to say it's bad, it's quite excellent actually, but the controls and everything would port quite well to a console environment. Hopefully they can patch up all the bugs it still has in the EE version by then, as it really was one of the coolest RPGs I've played in years until a quest bug halted all my progress when I was almost done with the second chapter =/.

I seriously don't know why people are saying it's made for "PC Controls". I played the game using the over-the-shoulder 3rd person cam, and moved around with WSAD, instead of using the point and click interface. It wouldn't be hard to add some simple auto-targeting to replace the mouse clicking on dudes, I think it would perform fantastically with a controller.

I had the original release, so I found the gameplay tedious, but you got to give leeway to a game where the "hero" threatens to come back to a village, drag every dirty peasant out from hiding under rocks and in the trees and kill them all.

This is one of the games were the story drives you and learn to overlook the combat issues or some glitches (i havent found a lot in the Enchanced edition of this year release),

And yeah, with a cheap PC you should be able to run it without any problems.

This game was riddled with bugs and flaws and it was still one of the best RPGs out in recent years. They've fixed it and added a ton of content for the PC version. Almost a flawless game these days. I recommend this game to anyone who likes RPGs. Hope the console ports turn out OK. I'm less worried about the X360 than the PS3. Seems the PS3 has all sorts of issues with game titles these days.

Lol, I like how PC owners are so devoid of games that they defend The Witcher, like its their child that just been sold into console slavery. The sky is falling, it'll never work I tell you.

The Witcher is a good game, and one that deserves to be in more hands. I'm sure CD Projekt will create a control and menu system to suit consoles fine, have some faith. Either way, I'll be glad to see their work on my 360, hopefully without any edits (that's right, keep the sexy time bits in there, as too many rpgs aren't mature enough).

Some of the comments here are hilarious, especially toxics.

And this is cool, I hate PC gaming so one more PC game I can play on consoles is cool by me.

Now if only Vampire the Masquerade would come out for consoles, then I would be a happy camper.

To be honest, if it wasn't for Fallout 3 recently coming out for the PC, The Witcher would be the best RPG I've played on the PC in the last 5 years... maybe 10.

Perhaps the sex is a little gratuitous and corny at times, but the game makes up for it with a gritty, mature storyline and decisions concerning alliances and karma that make a legitimate difference in the story, something that Fallout 3 and Fable 2 can't say.
