I haven't played this yet, so I don't really have an opinion about the choice you folks made. However, I did play the first, and if this really is better than that one, I can't see myself mustering up much opposition.

Planning to buy this game soon since everyone says its a good game, but I would have rather seen Arkham Asylum take GOTY. It basically came out of no where and was a fantastic game, though some of the boss battles were a bit disappointing.
Nonetheless, will still try out Uncharted 2 once I get the chance, but it really seems like a movie with some gameplay features put into it.

very happy with the choice. Uncharted 2 was amazing game and blew me away with certain situations. The one I like talking about the most is when a helicopter blows up the building you're in and as the floor is falling you have to kill guys and then jump to the next building. I'm very happy with the other nominees. All of those are great games.
@PappaDukes - Tried the multiplayer beta. Thought it sucked. Definitely not something that needed to be included in what *could* have been a great single player game.
I've never played Uncharted, but it looks pretty good. it's good to see PS3 finally starting to release some good titles. I thought Borderlands was the most innovative game of the year, but I also never played Uncharted. I'm glad for Sony, finally stepping it up with a decent game

Allow me to preface my comment by saying that I haven't played U2 yet, but I'm currently playing through the first and I'm absolutely loving it. If the sequel is even slightly better quality (or hell, even if it's the exact same), I can totally agree with it being the game of the year.

I'm really tired of people getting hardons over Destructoid not "nominating" MW2 (even though it made the short list). MW2 was a fucking fantastic videogame, and I have a feeling if it wasn't so popular, it wouldn't be nearly as "cool" to hate on it. I love Uncharted 2. Love, love, love it. That said, I'm really surprised the game has avoided the similar attacks of what Prince of Persia came under fire for: that the controls seemed to de-evolve and made it where it was almost a giant, hand-holding cinematic experience of a game. I really wanted to make it my personal Game of the Year but the illusion created by the beauty of the game to mask the retardation of the controls tells me the honors should go to Arkham Asylum instead.
@Nephlabobo - Keyword "BETA"! And furthermore, because a game has "tacked-on" multiplayer as you put it, doesn't mean the single-player campaign cant' be good, or in UC2's case FUCKING EPICALLY AMAZING campaign. I never even touched the multiplayer (hell, I wasn't even going to play it but had a good friend sweet talk me with all his praises) until I beat the game, but as soon as I beat it, I immediately loaded up the multiplayer and played for 6 hours straight.

Not unexpected, but I do love seeing Uncharted 2 take all these awards. It really was the best game I played all year and the one with which I have the least beef. Only a few small problems exist, instead of the plethora I saw in nearly every other game I played.
Yeah so I only played a little bit of UC2... It never really roped me in. I guess I'm just one of those gamers who still plays Borderlands and loves every moment of it. Seriously Borderlands is such a great and addictive experience, it's the only GOTY in my book. Also, isn't lady GaGa a guy?

The multiplayer was fine, but it was the single player experience that made this game shine.

@Nephalobo - hahaha, nice. Just because I could and should make love to it, I will keep my restraint. It sounds too painful anyways.
I still have not played this game yet, but with as high quality as the first one was, I'm by no means surprised. My intuition tells me this was the right choice.
@BurnPianoBurn - Aside from a smart-talking, slightly-bumbling, every-man hero character, what else do Firefly and Uncharted 2 have in common?
All of these games were outstanding each in their own lights. Uncharted 2 was definitely one of the best of the year. The only two I have yet to play from the list are Super Mario Bros Wii (might be getting for Christmas?) and Left for Dead 2 (not much fun if you don't have alot of other friends to play multiplayer with you). Right now playing Dragon Age and I definitely think it makes the grade as well. (also playing FFCC My Life As a Dark Lord (fun!))
