It is a terrible name, but yeah... It's not going to change. Nintendo has had a track record of terrible system names ever since the GameCube. Or as it's officially known (according to retail outlets): GameCube Nintendo.

As one of the few people in the world who doesn't care about a console's name, color or graphical prowess, all I have to say is... bring on the games!!!
Face it. Other than the "Gameboy" almost every nintendo console has had a bad name.

I heard that Barack Obama is just Reggie's puppet and that Reggie controls everything. Just a conspiracy theory, but it's definitely a real thing.
The name is what I'm least concerned about. I really can't blame them for keeping the Wii name, it's a popular brand now, better for the marketing than coming up with some new name.
I would think it would be even better though if they just went with the "Wii 2" to firmly establish that it's a new console, even some gaming press thought the Wii U was just going to be a tablet as opposed to a new console when it was first revealed. You can only imagine how the general public might get confused when their Wii U games won't work on their wii, even though they bought the tablet controller used from Gamestop (which now that I think about it, may be part of the reason Nintendo doesn't plan on selling tablet controllers separately)

I still hate the name , Vr 32 or Ultra 64 were much better names than the Wii U.
Its just silly how they are trying associate this console with their past success with the wii , its pathetically trying to get the casual people who were invested in the console for 2 years and its trying to play catch up with microsoft and sony's hardcore audience.

I don't like the name very much, but it's actually pretty fun if you say it as if it's an onomatopoeia, Li'l Homer-style.

The Wii's name was funny for about a week until you got used to it, then it was just its name. It's the same with WiiU.
The problem with the name is that it doesn't help the confusion with the general public over what it is. The name just sounds like a Wii accessories.
So whats stopping nintendo from changing it, its not like Facebook is forcing them with an iron fist and saying "you will not be allowed to edit your FB page" c'mon people lets not be morons
Nintendo got all those likable characters and mascots. Yet they insist on using a steak thats been rolled over a barbershops floor to represent them... why.

@Paroxysm: yep those are my thoughts exactly, the mass public who doesn't know new machinery will think its just a modified Wii like many (non-"hardcore" gamers) thought the 3DS was just like the DSi (Hell many people thought you could play 3DS games on a normal DS just without 3D).
I really don't like the name but I didn't expect them to change it and I won't let it put me off buying the thing. Just hope they wow me E3 with their games.
I'm over the whole Wii being a dumb name thing. I just don't see why they're choosing such a similar name given the fact that their precious casual market is already in a decline. Having a similarly named product just seems detrimental.
