The Wheel of Time series gets a story director photo

Expect blockbuster action in the Wheel of Time videogames. Professional screenwriter Chris Morgan is directing the story for Red Eagle Entertainment’s forthcoming videogame series. Morgan is the writer of numerous Hollywood flicks including such greats as Cellular, Wanted, The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift.

The Wheel of Time series is a mess of cold stares and plot holes, but we’re guessing that’s not why Morgan was given the job as story director. The videogame series is described as a set of games “derived” from Robert Jordan’s fiction, thus -- and we’re guessing here -- writers are need to plug in whatever game-y elements are needed to flesh out the digital experience.

We’re cool with this choice as long as we don’t glimpse Rand steering his horse around slick street bends or evading police in future teaser trailers. That would be a bigger bummer than the typical cold (or icy) stare.

Cool. I took a class from Brandon Sanderson (the guy writing the last three books), which made me take another look at the series. Plus I can now claim to know the guy personally. He gave me his assurance that the last three books wouldn't be as amazingly dull as most of the more recent ones (read: BORING). Dunno about a game though...

Please finish the series before you ruin it for me.

yeah.... I couldn't even bring myself to finish the last few books. Rand was barely a main character and it was all about those silly girls who aren't very exciting.

On another note I think I would appreciate seeing Rand being chased by police....

I hope this doesn't become some big budget Michael Bay video game, because I can see it happening.

@Doos, Brandon Sanderson is finishing the series after Jordan died in 2007. The final "book" is actually going to be released in 3 seperate books. Book 12, The Gathering Storm will be released around Nov. 2009. The subsequent 2 books will be (hopefully) released each year after.

That series sucks balls anyway. The games will only suck and burn as well.

The series is actually pretty damn good, and it reinvigorated a fantasy genre that had largely ground to a stand-still in the late 80s and early 90s. People like to shit on the series these days, because it's the trendy thing to do, sort of like retro-hate for Final Fantasy VII.

I don't know how well the series will translate into a game -- my gut tells me not very well, but who knows -- but take any 'Wheel of Times sucks' commentary with a more than a few grains of salt.

I enjoyed the books as well...up to a certain point. I forget which book it was that I stopped reading the series. I do remember that it involved a 50 page prelude that covered the characters riding a total of 12 miles. During which the men bitched about the women being women and vice-versa. It was the most unimportant, inane narrative I've ever read in a fantasy novel. Consequently I refused to read the rest of that book or any by Jordan. There was just too much potential that got bogged down in unimportant battle of the sexes scenarios.
