As seen on Weekend D: It's the old Donkey Kong Country promo. I truly miss videogame marketing like this. It's just too serious today. Granted, it's our jobs to try and make videogame news entertaining now.

We talked to 2K about BioShock, the new Monthly Musing topic is up, Holmes looked at the bosses of No More Heroes 2, you can win a bunch of Dante's Inferno swag, Sonic might be playable in Mario Galaxy 2 and more happened over the weekend.

Just a heads up, the cheesy 90's editing may give you a seizure.

Man things were just so much simple back then. Games were big, but not colossal.

This game is the shit btw.

AHHHHH I remember the old Nintendo Power promo videos! I didn't get the DKC one, but I still have my VHS copies of the promos for Star Fox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and another one that I don't think was for a specific game (or maybe it was for Jet Force Gemini?). Those were so awesome; wish I still had a VHS player so I could watch them, haha.

Oh well, that's what Youtube is for.

I still remember this one and the starfox one by how cheesy they were. I didn't get to see the DKR one since the tape got busted through the mail, sad.

A ha ha!
I had this ridiculous video sent to me, too. Why the hell did I get rid of it?! Guess I can answer that question myself.
Also, didn't Miyamoto go on record stating he hated the Donkey Kong County series?

@Artemus
Miyamoto said that DKC was proof that gamers care more about graphics than gameplay (or something to that effect, anyway); I think he eventually apologized for it.

^ he hated the art style and did not really like the direction his pet child was taking, but I guess he accepted it with the time. In other words, they Sonic-ified DK.

I totally have this VHS tape still!! Must have watched it at least 10x waiting for DKC to release. God bless Nintendo Power in the 90's.

PS: For a fun fact, when they asked Shigeru to make Yoshi's Island, they wanted him to take the same style of DKC. In a humorist protest, he made the graphics look like crayon drawings instead of hi-tech 3D rendered sprites.

I imagine you can see a bit of what the game would have looked like if the man followed the orders in the intro of the game.

... I've got this VHS Promo. Thank you, Nintendo Power.

Also got the VHS Promos for Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure.

Those old promo videos were such an awesome surprise to get in the mail. I must have watched the DKC one dozens of times before the game came out...and a few times afterward too. Mainly because I loved seeing the inside of Nintendo. :-)
