Happy New Year! Here is your Rock Band DLC for the first week of 2008 ...

I've never been accused of cheating and then been threatened at gunpoint, but I think after a few bottles of Jack Daniels, I could easily sell (the master track of) Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps." The song is one of three songs added to the Rock Band downloadable content roster this week. Along with a cover of The Black Crowe's "Hard to Handle," the classic tune is going to be a must-have for those looking to pump up their Southern rock-flavored set lists.

Rounding out this week's selections is a cover of "Limelight," the fourth track off of Rush's eight studio album, Moving Pictures. The lyrics to "Limelight" were penned by Rush's Neil Peart, and primarily deal with him struggling to handle the band's rising success. Ironically, Moving Pictures became one of the Rush's most commercially successful albums.

All of the tracks will cost the expected 160 MS points/$2, and are currently available on the Xbox Live Marketplace (if you're lucky enough to access it). PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait until Thursday for the tracks; as a reminder, they will also be getting the five songs they missed out on from last week, due to the holidays.

I didn't have any problem downloading the songs, although it might have something to do with me downloading them at around 4am today.

Ah. I didn't know that this was this song. Neat.

If only World Tour didn't punish you by adding these songs to the setlists, and expect you to know them the second you download them...

They release Skynyrd and it isn't Sweet Home Alabama? Fucking fail, Harmonix. Those other two songs sound like crap too. So much for a decent New Years' DLC.

Kia, not every song that is released is supposed to be a hit single. If that were the case, then we would not have the opportunity to play with great songs like Electric Version by TNP.
And do not insult Rush.

Rush and Skynyrd, although I'd much rather see Working Man instead of Limelight.

Now MOAR DLC!!

I suppose a Rush cover is better than no Rush at all. Needs more Rush.

Hooray for Rush!

They should add Subdivisions, as it is quite possibly the first robot/human duet.

I bet you Rock Band owners just wish you had Linkin Park, The Used, and Mastodon. Oh God what the fuck is wrong with Activision. What the hell is Mastodon? If only Rock Band's expert wasn't a GH hard, I would've bought it.

Well, no Rush cover will be able to replicate Geddy Lee’s high-pitched whine accurately enough, but as Sharpless said, a cover is better than nothing at all.

Also, Nick: “Ironically, Moving Pictures became one of the Rush's most commercially successful albums.

There shouldn’t be any “the” in that sentence.

I kinda wish the Rock band DLC wasnt so partial towards classic rock. I want them to release more contemporary songs from the 90's and 00's. They did it last week with the all american rejects and 30 seconds to mars... but come on.. those bands aint so great (although ill admit "move along" is damn catchy). Id love for them to throw stuff like the arctic monkeys or muse or audioslave in there (shut up, i like audioslave) or even sound garden or rage against the machine.
