The Week in Rock (Band DLC): Jordan Catalano invades your console

9:24 AM on 12.25.2007, Nick Chester 48 comments

     Xbox 360

First things first: this new batch of downloadable content for Rock Band will only be available today for the Xbox 360. Sony apparently gives their employees a break over the holidays (Microsoft are slave drivers!), so you guys will have to wait until Thursday, January 3 to get this content (along with whatever we end up getting next week).

The good news is that these tracks will cost $1 a piece (80 MS Points), as a special gift this holiday.
"Attack" - 30 Seconds To Mars (from 2005's A Beautiful Lie)
"The Kill" - 30 Seconds To Mars (from 2005's A Beautiful Lie)
"Dirty Little Secret" - All-American Rejects (from 2005's Move Along)
"Move Along" - All-American Rejects (from 2005's Move Along)
"Song With A Mission" - The Sounds (from 2006's Dying To Say This To You)

I can only imagine the wonderful things you guys will have to say about these selections, considering one of the bands is a top-40s pop-punk artist, and another is a platinum-selling band that features Jared Leto on guitar and vocals (and eyeliner). Regardless of what you (or I) think about the bands and the songs, objectively I can say that these aren't bad picks for Rock Band -- they feature good individual instrument parts, and have disgustingly catchy hooks.

I'm going to be picking up both All-American Rejects songs, because my son is a pretty big fan. I've heard "Move Along" more times than my psychiatrist would care to know about. I'm not too sure about this Swedish band, The Sounds -- admittedly, I've never heard of them. That is until I found their video on YouTube (which you can see after the jump).

I'm not a big fan of the All-American Rejects, but those are actually the only two songs I like from them (Top of the World isn't bad, either).

The rest of it is kind of meh, but I'll most likely be buying all five of them since they're so cheap. Seems like that's the way most people feel about them. XD

Not a huge fan of any of those bands but hell for a dollar i think I might snatch up all 4 of the top ones.

And seriously music bashing is like an internet past time that I wish never existed. It must come standard with every douchebag training.

Bought all 5 this morning. They're catchy songs that people actually know, and since this is a group party game, it's good to have the largest variety available for everyone to enjoy. Plus, the price is nice.

The Sounds FTW. Like I said before, there could be so many other better songs they could've chosen. But it's The Sounds so I'm all over it.

I wonder if they could put Radiohead - In Rainbows up for download.. i mean, it was free to begin with. Sure a lot of people would be happy to see anything Radiohead related for Rock Band,

The Sounds are worth the purchase, but, hell, 80 MS points ain't bad and it can only add to the fun of the game so I say go nuts everyone. I really wish that Rock Band could have received Mastodon's "Sleeping Giant" individually instead of in that pack for GH3. Anyways, MERRY XMAS DUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!

It's just the record companies holding things up, I'm sure. They're trying to decide how big of a cut they need to save themselves from their own stupidity.

What the hell? Did Rock Band acidently get GH3's latest DLC of awful music from 2004-2007? The Sounds are alright, but Jared Leto is pretty much the definition of a douche outside of Tom Delonge.

Going against the grain and "lol music elitists" I'm going to go ahead and say I think this is the best DLC pack yet. I'm sick of getting nothing but "classic" rock over and over again, it's refreshing to see something modern. I'm not a huge fan of 30StM, but I like the AAR and The Sounds are awesome.

Screw this crap we've been getting and give me more music that's actually from the past 10-12 years, please.

Is this really only for tdoay? I know they said "limited time" but I didn't think it was just for 1 day. I figured they'd give it a week at least, especially since the PS3 stuff doesn't even come out for another week.

Good thing I brought my 360 and Rock Band on this trip so I can get it either way... although will probably avoid the 30STM stuff... not sure I want that stuff popping up in my "Random" setlists (and until they implement some kind of song manager, it's probably better that I just not have it.)

I bought it all except for the sounds song. I'm sorry, I think she is hot and all, but I just didn't like the song. I bought the AMR songs for my sister in law (They are here) and I do like TSTM songs.

Along with it I also got Buddy Holly, Fortunate Son, War Pigs, Sharona, and I think that's it...?

Meh...I like The All-American Rejects’ self-titled debut album better. Plus, while “Move Along” had a cool video, the song was in one of the SingStar games. Come on, Harmonix...MOAR FULL ALBUMS!

Bout The Sounds song (which is sadly, a cover :( ), as well as the two 30 seconds to Mars songs, because they're tolerable. I don't think All-American Rejects are worth 80 MS points... maybe someday...

Not a 30stm fan but the songs are fun to play and $1 ftw.

AAR is alright and the songs are also fun to play.

The Sounds song just annoys the hell out of me so im gonna pass on that one.

I listened to some of the other sounds stuff on youtube...don't really like any of it.

Silly American maybe?

these tracks work out at 50p each, imagining all the money I waste during a normal week, at least you could waste money on these and get something back.
theres always a chance some friend you dont see that much will come round and be all "O M G, you have NOT got 30 seconds tracks!" *squeals in fannish glee* then theyd love you forever and be there to take the blame for stuff in exchange for more time playing your copy of RB.
