This week's Rock Band downloadable content brings a pack of songs which I will surely never be able to complete on expert in anything but vocals. The "Earache Thrash Pack" brings three Earache Records recording artists to Rock Band to completely bug the crap out of your neighbors and frighten your cats:

At the Gates - "Blinded By Fear"
Evile - "Thrasher"
The Haunted - "D.O.A."

All songs are of the original recordings and will cost $1.99 (or 160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) a piece. If you're so inclined to save a few bucks, the entire "Earache Thrash Pack" can be picked up for $5.49 (or 540 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360).

Back when some of the tracks were first revealed by the Official "Leaky McLeakTown" Xbox Magazine, I said this and I'll say it again: these songs are pretty great instrumentally, but something tells me that a random set list could be "ruined" by tossing an At The Gates track in between a Red Hot Chili Peppers and a Garbage song.

If only there were a way to disable certain tracks for the game's "Band World Tour" mode ...

Who are these bands and why would I care about them?

Where's my The Who?

Personally not a fan of these songs, but I've seen people who are waiting solely for a set like this to be released. At least it adds to a DLC variety, and knocks out another tri-pack from that leaked list.

I'm not really that much of a fan of the music. But most of the Rock Band DLC hasn't been that challenging so far. For a change of pace I'll probably buy them, plus I love noodling solos.

@dvddesign: With all due respect, The Who can go straight to hell. Not because I hate the songs, but because Keith Moon's improvisational drum style does not lend itself to the Rock Band school of slavish faithfulness.

That said, At The Gates with only one foot pedal? That's like having sex halfway.

I will not play Rock Band until they make more Radiohead songs for download. This music is a waste of my time.

Once again, no Motorhead. I wouldn't mind some more classic metal type tracks, instead of the thrash-speed metal or nothing attitude goin on here. I guess it'll just take time.

I'm not buying anything this week. Thanks, Harmonix for helping me save money for that HDTV

Wow, not a big fan of these bands but these songs should be really fun to play. The metal solos are so ridiculous on expert mode, and I mean ridiculous in a really fun way.

The Haunted?

Dont mind if I do lol

At the Gates and Evile are cool, to much screamin for me though. But this is damn cool that there going to actually put in songs like this.

Now bring on my Dimmu Borgir!

Come on Holy Im probably just as much of a Radiohead nut as you are but they have to release something to keep the kids happy while they prep every Radiohead song for download ;)

@Kia

You sir don't know sh*t about music. This kind of music is not your cup of tea, I can understand that. But saying this isn't music is just retarded. You should be thankful this update doesn't include some of the heavier Earache bands like The Berzerker, Hate Eternal or Decapitated.

@Kia, don't be such a sissy. If only you knew how much At the Gates (and Dark Tranquillity/In Flames) shaped the modern melodic death metal scene.

PS I think you might enjoy the Blink 182 song.

Good to see some metal on Rock Band. Rock Band needs some prog metal, ala Dream Theater or Symphony X!

There is, BWT plays any song on your hard drive, sooooo delete the songs you don't want. When you want to play them again, just download for free.

im not sure how to play these songs with the rock band drums. the At The Gates song has double bass. They really should have made the bass drum another drum pad and let you attach your own pedal. That would feel alot better to play and allow more metal songs to be included. Also the pedal that comes with rock band and is cheap and plastic and mine broke.

@Noah - yeah it could use some prog metal, but the prog rock in the game is enough to sate my appetite.

I'm downloading this whole pack tomorrow, just for the drum tracks. I like active drum portions, i won't even try to "sing" (read: scream) these but hell i'll be sweating my balls off playing these songs back to back.

I can't wait.

If they released this pack from early 90's Earache, it could have been the best day ever. I want Napalm Death and Carcas in my Rock Band goddamnit, not this throwaway Metalcore shit.
