     Rock Band

First off, I'd like to apologize for this Rock Band downloadable content update coming a bit late today; for whatever reason, the press release made its way into my spam folder. Maybe it was because it contained the words "blondie" and "goo." Take that how you will ...

Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone," The Clash's "Train in Vain (Stand by Me)," and Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing" will all be available for download next week. As expected, each track will cost $1.99 a piece (or 160 MS Points), and will be available as a package for $5.49 (or 440 MS Points).

Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing" (from their 1990 release, Goo) also randomly appeared on Guitar Hero 3, so many of you may be familiar with it. And the fact that Harmonix and MTV Games are including it in their "Classic Tracks" pack, along with two songs written around the time of my birth, is making me feel really, really old.

I knew the chorus to that Fall Out Boy song that they released last week, I swear.

ROCK BAND™ Media Alert

CLASSIC TRACKS FROM BLONDIE, THE CLASH AND

SONIC YOUTH ADDED TO ROCK BAND™ LINEUP

Harmonix and MTV Games announced today the latest additions to the ROCK BAND™ downloadable content catalog: a three-pack of rock radio hits from the late ‘70s (Blondie’s “Hanging On The Telephone”), (The Clash’s “Train in Vain (Stand by Me)”) and early ‘90s (Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing”).

“Hanging On The Telephone” first appeared on Blondie’s third—and arguably best—album, 1978’s Parallel Lines. “Train in Vain (Stand by Me)” is from the album many critics refer to as one of the greatest rock records ever recorded, The Clash’s 1979 blockbuster London Calling, and “Kool Thing,” featuring Public Enemy’s Chuck D, was from 1990’s Goo, Sonic Youth’s first major label album.

Each track will be available for $1.99 per track (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) or $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for the three-pack.

Release date:
Tuesday, May 13, 2008 (Xbox LIVE® Marketplace)
Thursday, May 15, 2008 (PLAYSTATION®Store)

@juggernaut

forget your meds?

Anyway "Kool Thing" is quite possibly my least favorite guitar hero track of all time...so no on that one. I do love the Clash however.

Anyway, interesting pack. I'd love to download the full Daydream Nation album.

Yeah Kool Thing is a godawful track to play.

Do you get to play harmonica on vocals for The Clash though?

I'm happy but disappointed with The Clash's song. Happy because I get more Clash, Disappointed cause they should've added something from there first self-titled album. It's much more more heavier. "Train In Vein"...meh.

I’m going to echo the sentiments of the title character in Juno and say that Sonic Youth is “just noise”. But hey, I’m looking on the bright side: this’ll be yet another week where I won’t be giving MTV/Harmonix my money.
