First off, I'd like to apologize for this Rock Band downloadable content update coming a bit late today; for whatever reason, the press release made its way into my spam folder. Maybe it was because it contained the words "blondie" and "goo." Take that how you will ... Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone," The Clash's "Train in Vain (Stand by Me)," and Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing" will all be available for download next week. As expected, each track will cost $1.99 a piece (or 160 MS Points), and will be available as a package for $5.49 (or 440 MS Points). Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing" (from their 1990 release, Goo) also randomly appeared on Guitar Hero 3, so many of you may be familiar with it. And the fact that Harmonix and MTV Games are including it in their "Classic Tracks" pack, along with two songs written around the time of my birth, is making me feel really, really old. I knew the chorus to that Fall Out Boy song that they released last week, I swear.
ROCK BAND™ Media Alert
CLASSIC TRACKS FROM BLONDIE, THE CLASH AND
SONIC YOUTH ADDED TO ROCK BAND™ LINEUP
Harmonix and MTV Games announced today the latest additions to the ROCK BAND™ downloadable content catalog: a three-pack of rock radio hits from the late ‘70s (Blondie’s “Hanging On The Telephone”), (The Clash’s “Train in Vain (Stand by Me)”) and early ‘90s (Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing”).
“Hanging On The Telephone” first appeared on Blondie’s third—and arguably best—album, 1978’s Parallel Lines. “Train in Vain (Stand by Me)” is from the album many critics refer to as one of the greatest rock records ever recorded, The Clash’s 1979 blockbuster London Calling, and “Kool Thing,” featuring Public Enemy’s Chuck D, was from 1990’s Goo, Sonic Youth’s first major label album.
Each track will be available for $1.99 per track (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) or $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for the three-pack.
Release date: Tuesday, May 13, 2008 (Xbox LIVE® Marketplace) Thursday, May 15, 2008 (PLAYSTATION®Store)

LIES ALL LIES DAMMIT I REFUSE TO BELEIVE THAT THIS COULD EVER HAPPEN!!!
this is like i dont know, something happening that you know would never happen like a black buy being elected president or s woman that might be a dyke byt we arent sure cause she might have gotten married for a tax break and not for love ! !!!!!!
im so torn right now
I'm speechless.
@juggernaut
forget your meds?
Anyway "Kool Thing" is quite possibly my least favorite guitar hero track of all time...so no on that one. I do love the Clash however.
What just happened? Is unstoppablejuggernaut okay?
Anyway, interesting pack. I'd love to download the full Daydream Nation album.
I want Kim Gordon to have my babies.
Yeah Kool Thing is a godawful track to play.
Do you get to play harmonica on vocals for The Clash though?
Where would Destructoid be without Nick Chester?
yes no meds but lots of booze.
cool thing, arguably the only good song sonic youth made. i mean im all over the noise rock and shit but sonic youth equals sucks so yeah coolthing is good but not much else.
thanks senior chesty for making me want to buy a plastic guiatr with rainbow colored buttons on it now you bastard :D
Sonic Youth is good...but I'm not interested in playing it.
Yeah, Sonic Youth!!... oh, wait, Kool Thing? C'mon, just get Daydream Nation on there already; now THAT would rock the house.
Kool Thing and Train in Vain...AWESOME!!! Hey kool thing sitting pretty with a kitty.
"Kool Thing"? Why not... "Teenage Riot".... "Bull in the Heather".... but effing Kool Thing?
I'm happy but disappointed with The Clash's song. Happy because I get more Clash, Disappointed cause they should've added something from there first self-titled album. It's much more more heavier. "Train In Vein"...meh.
I guess Sonic Youth is pretty cool, but why Kool Thing? WTF you guys, WTF?
It's a pack? Yay!!!! I have exactly 440 ms points ^_^
Whatever, Nick. Blondie and Sonic Youth rock. It's okay that you're old.
I’m going to echo the sentiments of the title character in Juno and say that Sonic Youth is “just noise”. But hey, I’m looking on the bright side: this’ll be yet another week where I won’t be giving MTV/Harmonix my money.
Samit, you may want to duck.
*molotov soars through window*
FLAMEWAAAAAAR!
@samit
Fall Out Boy is just noise Samit. Horrible noise which makes me depressed knowing that this generation is actually enjoying this noise. The noise however does make me realize that the majority of people in this generation have bad to no taste in music.
worrrrrrrrrrd up!
Samit, sadly dude the world is going to ignore you, music wise after the fall out boy thing.
there's nothing you can do dude, it's how it works. :(
