Well here's a first -- I have absolutely nothing to say about this week's Rock Band downloadable content selections. So maybe I'm revealing to you guys how completely out of touch I am, or what an old fart I've actually become, but I've never heard any of these songs. Two of the bands, I've never even heard of, either.

Harmonix's Sean Baptiste confidently makes the announcement today on the Rock Band forums, as if I'm suppose to know what the hell he's talking about:

Here are the songs for DLC this week (3/11)

All songs are $.99 (80 Microsoft Points).

"Shockwave" by Black Tide (Master)

"Crushcrushcrush" by Paramore (Master)

"Beethoven's C***" by Serj Tankian (Master)

OK, I know who Serj Tankian is -- that dude's the lead singer for System of a Down, and he has got a killer goatee. Back in 19-whatever-the-hell, I met him in Baltimore at an Incubus show, where System of a Down was the opening act. All I remember is that he was really high, and like I mentioned before, had a killer goatee. Apparently he's gone solo now, and I can only assume that the uncensored title of his song is "Beethoven's Cool." Or "Beethoven's Cute" or "Beethoven's Cats." Because anything else would be completely inappropriate.

As for Paramore, I guess this is the closest we'll get to Avril Lavigne in Rock Band (although if I had my druthers, "Girlfriend" would be in next week's batch). Black Tide has a vocalist who calls himself "Weeman" and (from what I can tell) write songs in 2007 that sound like they were written in 1990.

So what are you buying this week?

[Update: OK, here's the common thread with this week's selections -- SXSW! Yes, according to the official press release that just hit my mail box, these songs are celebrating the spirit of the festival. All three bands will be playing at the SXSW Hot Topic/Xbox LIVE/Rock Band party at La Zona Rosa in Austin, TX. Rock on. Press release after the jump.]

I met Sean at Dyson's party. Hella cool guy. I wish harmonix was in California instead of stupid Boston.

Sean sucks! That dude played Rock Band with Herbie Hancock and I didn't. God damn it.

All I know about Black Tide is that they replaced Five Finger Death Punch on their tour with All That Remains, and for that reason I hate them. The End.

He played with Herbie Hancock?! No fair.

The best thing about Sean was when I asked him if Harmonix would put The Decemberists in Rock Band, he said he'd love to have them in their too.

Doesn't mean it'll happen, but at least somebody else cares!

Five Finger Death Punch isn't that good, just throwing that out there. I still want to know what happened to that At the Gates song

*logs onto his Rock Band community account*
*looks at the section that reads "songs I wish were in RB*
*sees that he wrote "Paramore - Crushcrushcrush*

Unlike most of the internet, I'm a happy camper for tomorrow. I wasn't this excited for a RB download since I was creaming myself for Wonderwall (lol mainstream fggt).

Now if I can see Pendulum's 'Propane', Micheal Jackson's 'Beat It' (even though both unlikely and some Showbread...

Well, while I'm dissapointed that the Paramore song isn't "Misery Business", I'll be picking up all three selections this week.

Wow sorry for being lame, but I never heard of these songs before 8(

There should be away to listen to some samples before buying it online 8(

Unless of course I go look for the mp3's, but that would be stealing!

@ inque:

That would be really sweet if you could preview songs before purchasing them for Rock Band. In a perfect world ...

I don't know the first and third, but I can vouch for Paramore being good if you like pop punk fronted by a girl who can actually sing with attitude.

What is the deal. I really want to know what you guys in game journalism listen to because most of you guys always talk about how bad the music is in games. Now I know you didn't say any thing to bad but the way you talked about black tide was not all that flattering. Even though IMO there one of the best bands to come out in some time. So Nick Chester can you please list some of your favorite bands.

I'm really skeptical about all the shitty bands the music industry has been cranking out, but Paramore has been one of the better ones.
I just wish the song had been Misery Business or Emergency.

These tracks are boring...can't we get something interesting? How about an Opeth song? like...Deliverance? That would be 10 minutes of everyone having to focus and do retarded timings/things with their bodies... or even Meshuggah. Lets put up some Tool too, get the drummers to kill themselves... something interesting come on!! Fun for the whole band without having to sell out to this candy stuff.

Bring on CARCASS...Corporeal Jigsore Quandry...We need...NEED this song to be on Rock Band :D

Just downled all three tracks. Im mainly a drum player, so I tried them all out on drums. I tried Paramore out on hard first, aminly because I like and know that song, and Id hit Hailey every which way from Sunday. Great song for drums and what i would belive guitar as well. Serj on the other hand, not such a great song for drums... SLOW. The other one, pretty good.

For the love of god ppl, if you download ANY tracks, please download the cheap $1 tracks to show Harmonix and M$ that this price point goes over well. If they were all this cheap, I wouldnt think twice about spending the money, whether I like the song or not.
