You read that right. Telltale has organized an online talk show centered entirely around their upcoming episodic adventure game The Walking Deadcalled Playing Dead. Which makes sense, given how huge the franchise is. Except I'm going to be entirely honest and say it's pretty painful to watch. The whole thing starts off with the host who looks like he just walked in from straight out of the 90's and doesn't get much better from there.
The host talks with lead designers Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman about what the game will be and won't be. Everything is fine and dandy until they get to the part where Jake talks about how Robert Kirkman didn't talk to him for five minutes because he mentioned he liked Super Mario Sunshine. This prompted the host to say, "Yeah, that's not something you tell people." After that they start making horrible jokes about water jet packs. If you can keep watching through all of that, I commend you.
I'm not saying Super Mario Sunshine is a spectacular game, but it's a solid release in the franchise.
I wish more studios working on zombie games would try bringing the creativity found in titles like Super Mario Sunshine into their development process.
As it is, no matter how storied the franchise history may be, I have difficulty looking forward to 'yet another zombie game.'
The show is so painful. It makes no sense why they think this would be an entertaining format to present information in. You could boil it all down to a few sentences and a couple of screen shots. If you're going to take 13 minutes then be entertaining.
I forgot Telltale were still working on this. I can't say i'm looking forward to it yet, seeing as Jurassic Park was a definite disappointment, but I'll continue to wait and see.
With Back to the Future and Jurassic Park out, and seeing how that turned out I've sort of lost faith in Telltale. They haven't been able to develop a successful game that's different to the core of what they've been designing for a little under a decade. And that's really too bad.
Also, honestly, this video isn't half as bad as most of the shit Ponce digs out of Reddit and posts on the front page with an accompanying line of sperg babble.
Their descriptions of gameplay are so vague and ambiguous! I can't inside a Telltale game giving any kind of shooting mechanics or the feeling of immanent soon. Back to the Future was amazing, but how can they do survival?

I wonder how Fables is going as well...
