A mate of mine gave me Hyperdimension Neptunia for Christmas. It's a very strange game, has a number of flaws and I haven't the faintest idea what is going on.

Just stopping in to note some tasty irony: I'm actually playing Neptunia now, and quite looking forwards to the vastly-improved [or so the importers say] sequel next year!

It always amuses me that people get so flustered over one man's opinion on the internet. At the end of the day, one must simply don their top hat, dash off into the fading sunset and form their own opinions on their game of choice.
I remember Hyperdimension Neptunia! I was playing it not 10 minutes ago.
I actually like it, it has a good sense of humour and a fun battle system. A bit grindy though. Way too grindy.

I think MK7 shouldn't have gotten a 5. It's what you come to expect from those games. It adds one thing thats more than a gimmick than anything else and doesn't change the rest.
The enjoy ability of these games never changes, it just depends whether you get tired of playing them yourself.

That's why I think people should ditch the numerical scoring system and stick to a strict, "Buy, Rent, or Pass" motif. I mean that's the reason people are reading these reviews right? To see if they should drop $60 of their hard earned dollars on the new hotness. I also looked up the Uncharted 3 review on Eurogamer. Damn Europe! U Mad!?!?! Dude gave the damn game an 8 and U sooooo MAD!?!?!?
What I don't understand is why people take reviews so seriously. It's an OPINION. I loved MK7. Jim didn't. WHO FUCKING CARES?

I love how some people believe that reviewers exist solely to cater to them and what they believe about a game. Then when reviewers don't, they freak out and whine like the babies they are.

........ So can we all just agree that reviewing anything that uses an artistic license is subjective and that if a reviewer gives a game you like a low score it isn't the end of the world.
Conversely if a reviewer gives a game you think is total ass, a high score it also is not the end of the world.
Find a reviewer that shares similar tastes and filter out the reviewers you don't jive with. Simple as that.

Chuckle. I'm still playing through Hyperdimension Neptunia actually hehe. I pick it up and play for about 5-10 hours at a crack. I went back to playing Fallout New Vegas after one stint and had Neptunia's gun comment going over and over in my head when I went for a head shot. "Gotta aim for the head.. BLAM!" :p
I don't think Hyperdimension Neptunia was a great game but it was certainly different from a lot of the ones out there at the moment. Shrug. To each their own.

It's unfortunate that Stealth's rage posts in the Solatorobo review overshadowed the posts from people pointing out the misinformation in the actual review, that suggested the reviewer didn't even play through the game before informing people to stay away from it.
Hate out of ten is one of my favorite memes this year. Jim, you're one of my favorite reviewers ever. Even when I disagree with a particular point, I still enjoy reading it. As an aside, your particular manner of speech comes through so well in much of your writing that I actually hear you speaking when I read it. Crazy. Anyway, give us hell, Sterling!

Jim Sterling and company, I have an idea: have the DToid web developers add code to review pages that detects if Stealth's account is viewing a page about a Nintendo-related product, and if so rate it a random number between 1 and 4. Then we can watch him spout off about how the review is BS and make himself look like an idiot again, and hopefully he'll go away on his own accord after having that happen again and again.

Whenever I read the comments of a possibly shit-storm inducing review, it's all just "Here come the flames" and "Watch out for the shit-storm", but no actual action. :(
Hyperdimension Neptunia was my favorite purchase of this year! I sold it for double what I payed for, thanks Destructoid for that great review so I didn't have to open it!
To be clear, my code above replaces the actual score with a BS score ONLY IN THE USER'S BROWSER. It won't change anything in the database. In fact, all the web developers would have to do would be to add this javascript ANYWHERE in the HTML of a review page:

What still kills me is when you review a game and people either bash the shit out of you or congratulate you on a good review WHEN THEY HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME YET THEMSELVES.
How do they even know the game is what you said it is outside of the coverage that's been given to it -if there was any- over the months leading to it? And how do you pick apart something when most of that coverage leading to it is the same 3 things said over and over? Hype is a powerful thing but it doesn't make up for having the thing in front of you.
A lot of the reviews this year were released on Fridays, days before street date for the games in question (maybe not the ones in the article, but many reviewed otherwise this year) there's no way for most of us to really say one way or another about these games unless we're getting review copies too (IE one way or another getting payed to review things). You want a whacky conspiracy theory?: How many of us are reviewers from other sites? Or better yet, how many of us are paid by the publishers/PR firms/Developers to cause hell on this site? Cause that ridiculousness would be even more funny, considering it drives up the site hits and gives you guys more money to -rightfully- do your thing.

The only one I'm angry at is MW3. I love the CoD series, I'd usually play it over BF, but this one was just so terrible... I returned it for all of my money, thankfully...
